Johnny has recently become a member of the Leukemia Society of America Team in Training. On June 4, 2000, he will run the Suzuki Rock-N-Roll Marathon in San Diego, CA. Team in Training is an organization that supports the best researchers investigating the causes, treatment and cures for leukemia and its related cancers as well as provides support programs for patients and their families and assistance to help them meet the costs of treatment. It is estimated that leukemia and its related cancers, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, strike 102,2000 Americans each year and kill 56,210. After running the St. George Marathon last fall, Johnny is looking forward to running the Suzuki Marathon and helping to raise money to find a cure for leukemia. Your tax-deductible donation will help Johnny towards his pledge of $100 a mile ($2,620) due by March 24, 2000. Several athletes on the Springville Seals Aquatic Team recently competed at an Invitational Swim Meet in Murray. Twenty-one teams from around the state were represented and 290 athletes competed. Amber Kne-cht Kne-cht and Summer Folster, are preparing to compete at the Region Re-gion VI Swim Meet in American Fork on Sat., Jan. 29, and at the Hunter Education class to start Jan. 24 A Hunter Education class will be taught on January 24, 25, 27, 31 and February 1 and 3, in the Springville High School choir room A-2 (South West) 7 thru 9:30 p.m. each night. The written test will be given on Thursday, February 3, during the regular class time. Students need to bring $10, Social Security Number, notebook note-book and penpencil. The $10 : includes all expenses. A shooting schedule will also be posted. Students will need to arrange their time to complete their shooting training and shooting shoot-ing test. Students must pass the following: follow-ing: at least 12 hours in class time; a test score of 75: a shooting score of 150 points that includes targets from the prone, kneeling and standing positions. The class will be directed by Karl Barton (489-5517) and Jim Wiley (489-6986). Free ski day The community is invited to explore the cross country ski trails at Wasatch Mountain State Park Golf Course on January 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Free Ski Day at the park is being sponsored by the Friends of Wasatch Mountain State Park in ' an effort to acquaint the Community Commu-nity with not only the organization, organiza-tion, but also winter activities that are available for all ages and levels of ability. Wasatch Mountain State Park has generously agreed to waive the usual fee for this event. The Homestead Resort will provide cross country skis or snowshoes for a modest fee. A free cross country ski clinic will be conducted con-ducted for anyone who wishes to attend. Refreshments such as hot chocolate, hot apple cider and snacks will be available. 4 AH adult participants can enter a drawing for a free overnight over-night stay at the Homestead Resort.
