That means an honest give-and-take between you and your doctor. doc-tor. It's tougher than it sounds. Try these ideas. Tune into your doctor's communication com-munication style. Take the opportunity oppor-tunity to say what you want to say. 2) If you have to, write it down. Organize your thoughts. That way, you'll be less likely to forget something. Start your list with your major complaint and your most important symptoms. Jot down some questions to ask when the time is right. 3) Be honest. To get the right treatment, your doctor needs all the facts. As hard as it may seem, that may mean that sometimes some-times you have to discuss your usage of drugs or alcohol, concerns con-cerns about sexually transmitted diseases or eating disorders, or personal problems that could cause stress, anxiety or depression. depres-sion. 4) Be assertive. If a procedure or test scares you, or you feel you can't afford it, say to. If you're unhappy about any aspect of your treatment, say so. You are the customer, you have a right to be assertive. Just don't be afraid to say so. Mapleton in sound financial shape by Laurel Brady There was good news and bad news for Mapleton officials when the city's financial report for the fiscal year was completed. The city saw an increase in net worth to the tune of $700,-000, $700,-000, and most departments spent less than had been budgeted. But two departments overspent their budgets, and sales tax income fell below expectations. Auditor Neil Strong said the city is in sound shape financially, but he made several recommendations recommen-dations that should help prevent future problems. Strong last year recommended officials periodically compare actual expenditures with budget figures and be cautious at the year's end to prevent overspending. overspend-ing. While part of the overage was accounted for by payment of accrued time to police officers, that department and the ambulance ambu-lance department both overspent. He reminded officials once the city takes delivery, it has incurred in-curred an obligation recorded in the time period the goods or services are received. Strong noted the city has accumulated money in the capital projects fund that are not y&t propety allocated. He recommended recom-mended the city make specific allocations of those funds. The city's net worth increased $700,000 between June, 1993 and June, 1994. Sales tax revev nues were about $50,000 lower than had been expected, but total revenues exceeded budgeted expenses by about $83,245; Capital improvement fees accounted ac-counted for most of that amount. The police department ovetr spent by $8,165, while the ambulance ambu-lance department spent $5,629 more than budgeted. Most of that was spent on construction of a new building. The Enterprise fund (covering sewer and water and waste disposal) dis-posal) grew significantly, bringing bring-ing in $204,07 compared to last year's $134,107. City officials expect to incur more debt in the next few years as a sewer system is constructed, but they expect revenues will cover the additional debt.
