Show Page Ten - The Springville Herald - July 20, 1994 Volunteers needed for day camp v These young girls will reign as "Our Pioneer Legacy" Parade Princesses in the Mapleton City parade. They are: front, left to right, Ashley Winnie, 2nd Ward; Molli Mangum, 5th Ward; Angeline Jones, 1st Ward; back, Marcelline Murray, 8th Ward; Brittany Walpole, 4th Ward; Kali Ritchie, 3rd Ward; and Lindsay Dais, 6th Ward. The girls will represent their respective LDS wards on a float in the Mapleton Parade, July 25. Kids invited to join beginning summer band Beginning Summer Band for 1994 will start July 25 and run through August 12, Monday through Friday. Beginning band is strongly recommended according to Mr. John Talcott, instructor. Small classes of similiar instruments allow lots of individual attention at the , most critical time in a youngster's playing experience. If a student can attend at least half or more of the sessions, (allowing time for vacation, travel, camp, etc.) it will be worth while . The fee will be $20 whether the student can attend part or all of the classes. There is also a $5 charge for the book. The classes will be taught in the Spring ville Middle School Bandroom starting Tuesday, July 25. Fees are due that day. Please make checks payable to: John Talcott. The schedule for instruments is as follows: 8 to 8:45 a.m., flute; 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., clarinetoboe; 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., saxophone (7th grade only); 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., trumpetcornet; 11:15 to 12 a . m , t r o m -bonebaritonetubafrench horn; 12 to 12:45 p.m., lpercussion (bells). Volunteers are needed to help supervise children during Utah County's first integrated day camp for youth and teenagers with and without dissabilities. Family Support Services seeks individuals 18 years and older to volunteer. The Day camp lasts for eight days. Starting on August Au-gust 1, the first day camp week will run through August 4. The second week will start August 8 and end August 11. The hours for the day camp are noon to 4 p.m. . The kids at the camp will participate in activities ranging from visits to local parks and recreation centers to a field trip to the Bean Museum and Wilkinson Wilkin-son Center at Brigham Young University. Six to seven volunteers volun-teers are needed per day to accompany ac-company the children to the various sites and assist with the . activities. Shifts are flexible. This day camp was organized to give shildren with and without disabilities an opportunity to assiciate with each other and build friendships. Before the Saturday night closing performance of the Springville World Folkfest, each visiting dance group presented a gift to the City of Springville. Mayor Delora Bertelsen in turn gave each country a gift from the festival. Shown above are three of the dancers from Mexico with a handmade banner they gave to the city. Each group received a small statue of the Indian Chief Massasoit which was created, by Springville sculptor Cyrus Dallin. The statue is a symbol of our welcoming the visitors to our community as Massasoit welcomed the Pilgrims to America. Citizens invited to Mapleton parade The theme for this year's Pioneer Day parade in Mapleton is "Our Pioneer Legacy". Any Mapleton resident or organization is invited to participate. The parade, which will take place on Monday, July 25, will begin at 9 a.m. and will line up at 1200 North and travel to 1600 South on Main Street. Family floats are. encouraged. Just follow the theme and come have some fun. Parade organizers, Jan and Serene Wynn, say that candy throwing will not be allowed. Children participating will receive a treat at the end of the parade. There is also to' be no water squirting from water hoses, squirt bottles, guns, surgical tubing or fire hoses. No ATV's will be allowed in the parade unless they are pulling a float and driven by an adult 21 years or older. If young children are riding horses, a parent or other adult must be nearby during the parade.
