Show Four Utah schools to win $1,000 each in contest "Trees are terrific... up close and personal!" is the theme for the statewide Arbor Day Poster Contest that will net four elementary elemen-tary schools $1,000 each. The Division of State Lands and Forestry is sending registration registra-tion materials to principals, Arbor Ar-bor Day coordinators and PTA presidents throughout Utah. The registration deadline is February 4,1994. All elementary schools in Utah are invited to participate in the poster contest and other Arbor Day activities that teach children about the importance of trees in our communities. January OBITUARIES Jessie Jessie Packard Condie, Con-die, 89, of Springville died at her home December Decem-ber 31, 1993, of causes incident to age. She was born January 27, 1904, in Payson, Utah, to Chillian Fay and Phebe Jane Shuler Packard. She married Arthur Earl Condie January 23, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jessie graduated from Springville High School and was valedictorian of her class. Prior to her marriage to Arthur. She worked at Springville Bank and was an avid quilter. Reading was her favorite hobby. She was active in church and community affairs. She served actively in the LDS Church in various callings throughout her life, serving as teacher, Evelyn Lloyd Hicks, age 75, died Thursday, December 30, 1993 at her home in Springville of heart failure. She was born on June 28, 1918 in Orem, Utah to Clarence Lewis and Olive Cordner Lloyd. She married Theodore (Ted) McKean Hicks on August 18, 1938 in Lakeview (Provo), Utah. She was raised in Lakeview, graduated from Lincoln High in Orem and attended Brigham Young University. Univer-sity. She worked all her life on the farm, first with her parents in Lakeview, then with her husband on their farm in Springville. She was serving as President of the Locust Grove Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a member of the Kolob Amy J. Cloward Amy Ella Jarvis Cloward died of complications compli-cations of ' diabetes on December 30, 1993. She was born in Juarez, Mexico, March 3, 1929, to William H. Jarvis and Ella Wall Jarvis. She married Melvin L. Cloward in October 1949. She lived and served John Lewis Davies, age 91, died January 2, 1994 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of causes incident to age. He was born May 3, 1902 at Spring Coulee, Alberta, Canada to Thomas and Mary Ann Cooper Davies, who were Utah Mormons who had emigrated to Canada by covered wagon in 1900. He received his education in the Alberta, Canada schools and served in the United States Navy. He married Emma Veneta Nielsen in the Alberta Canada LDS Temple. She died May 13, 1976. He married Erma Squire Ewell on April 1, 1977 in the Provo LDS Temple. He was active in the LDS Church and served as a High Priest Group leader,' Sunday School Superintendent, Stake Missionary, ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for six years, member of the Tabernacle Taberna-cle Choir, was in the Alberta LDS Temple Dedication Choir in 1923 and in the Mendelson Choir in Provo. He and his wife Erma also served an LDS mission Althea Marsden Wilson of Ogden died a few days following her 80th birthday. She was born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, on December 23, 1913 the daughter of Charles Thomas and Elizabeth Caroling Puling Marsden. She married Boyd Lee Wilson on March 5, 1938 in Payson. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He died November 29, 1983. She graduated from Brigham Young Academy Acade-my and Brigham Young University. She had a fine alto voice and sang with the choir. She also served as an ordinance ordi-nance worker in the Provo Temple. She is survived by three sons and two daughters: Phyllis Condie, Mr. and Mrs. A. Packard Condie, Mr. and Mrs. Jack H. Jones (Jane) and Dr. and Mrs. Rulon P. Condie, all of Springville; Mr. and Mrs. Lee P. Condie of Spanish; 32 grandchildren; grandchil-dren; and 25 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, grandson, grand-son, Nello Rowley Condie; two brothers and three sisters: Chillian Evelyn L. Hicks 5th Ward, serving recently as a visiting teaching supervisor. She loved gardening and raised prize tomatoes. She was a skilled seamstress, seam-stress, especially in embroidery and quilting. She loved her family. She is survived by two sons: Wayne L. Hicks and wife Sharon of Springville; Clair L. Hicks and wife Laurie of Nicholasville, Kentucky; a daughter-in-law: Cecilia C. Hicks of Bothell, Washington; two brothers: Garn "C" Lloyd and wife Mary, of Mapleton; and Marvin Dee Lloyd and wife Marjorie, of Pleasant Grove; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; parents; a son, in the Springville-Map-leton area where she raised two sons and a daughter: Doug, Paul and Amy lu. She was an active member of the Mapleton LDS wards. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Interment was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville. John L. Davies in Indianapolis, Indiana. John is survived by his second wife of Springville, Spring-ville, eight children: John Lewis Davies, (Lila), Donald Leon Davies (Nada), both of Mapleton; Marilyn Richardson (John) of Provo; Keith Neilsen Davies (Louise) of Alpine; Valene Stannard (George) of Las Vegas; Lorin Peter Davies (Elizabeth Ann 'Beth') of Mona; David Leroi Davies (Jana) of Kays-ville; Kays-ville; and Veneta Jenkins (Ralph) of Twin Falls, Idaho. Step-children: Twilla Ewell Newberry, Darlene (Craig) Marshall, Mar-shall, Annette (Myron) Nichols, all of Springville; Spring-ville; Bill (Velma) Ewell of St. George; daughter-in-law Abele Ewell of Norwalk, CA; Gladys (Reece) Staheli of Gen-ola; Gen-ola; Marie (Calvin) Hjorth of Covered Bridge Canyon and Marva (Lloyd) Nelson of Richfield; 54 grandchildren; grandchil-dren; 151 great-grandchildren; 102 step-grandchildren; 237 step-greatgrandchildren; 201 step-great-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-great-grand- Althea W. Wilson married life was spent in Lovell, Wyoming. She later moved to Springville Spring-ville where she taught heme economics and English. She had also taught school in Payson and Spanish Fork. She and her husband retired in Ogden in 1978 where she resided until her death. She was an active member of the Highland LDS Ward. She had served as Primary President and a Young Women's Leader where her avocation was to prepare Laurels to go to the temple. She was a volunteer at McKay-Dee Hospital. 4 ,f 4' '4 Jessie P. He was preceded preced-ed in death by one son, Eldon Kay, who died at 11 months; his parents and all 10 of his brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 6 at 11 a.m. in the Spring Creek 7th Ward Chapel, 235 E. 550 North, Springville. Viewing will be Wednesday, January 5, at the Walker Family Mortuary, 85 E. 300 South, Provo from 6 to 8 p.m. and 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church on the morning of the service. Interment will be at the Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery. John Lewis Davies Surviving are two sons: Roger Boyd Wilson, Ogden; Gordon Thomas (Emolyn) Wilson, Brownsburg, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Donna Beaucraft Wilson, Simi Valley, CA; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister who passed away 10 days ago. Funeral services were Friday. Interment was in Payson City Cemetery where brief graveside services were held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations dona-tions be made to the McKay-Dee Hospital Foundation. 4 |
