Show SOCIAL EVENTS Auditions for Mt. Nebo Children's Choir Jan. 10 Singers, ages 8-14 are invited to audition for the Mt. Nebo Children's Choir. Auditions will be held in the Springville Art-Shop, Art-Shop, 443 S. 200 East, Monday, January 10, from 5-6 p.m. Teens and children auditioning should come prepared to sing a short song, and a few scales. The directors are looking for children who sing on pitch, have good tone quality and who are excited to sing with the choir. Rehearsals for the choir are every Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the ArtShop. The cost is $5 per month to cover the cost of music and other materials and each child will be required to rent a choir robe for the time they will be in the choir. The co-directors of the Mt. Nebo Children's Choir are Le-anna Le-anna Crockett and Leslie Walker. Mrs. Crockett has a degree in Music Education from BYU and teaches chorus and orchestra classes at Spanish Fork Intermediate Interme-diate School. She has directed choirs for the past 12 years. Mrs. Miss Utah County Pageant The Miss Utah County Pageant Pag-eant will be held on January 7, 1994 at the Orem City Center. Francine Christensen, pageant director, says "it will be a "mini" pageant. The first we've ever had, but will still be a wonderful night for the girls running." She directed a children's choir in Price for five years and was the founder of TheatreWorks, a children's theater the-ater workshop under the wing of Art City Community Theater. She currently teaches private voice lessons in her home. Mt. Nebo Children's Choir is one of the only children's choirs in the state that is run solely by volunteers. The choir started in the summer of 1993 and currently current-ly has 50 singers. Its purpose is to give children the wonderful experience of learning difficult music and performing it . well. Proper technique and uniformity is emphasized, and sightreading and listening skills are taught. The choir performs at least one concert per term, and plans are being made to join with other children's choirs in the state. The Senate can debate and vote on bills brought to them from a Standing Committee. Commit-tee. This is the bill's "second reading." It's appropriate to contact Senators prior to or during dur-ing that debate. The House, though, only votes on whether to adopt the Standing Committee's report as the "second reading" without debate on the bill. You can certainly still talk to a Representative Repre-sentative at this or any other point, but usually the actual Floor consideration will take place later. In both chambers, bills are debated and voted on the Floor during their "third reading." A variety of actions can occur at this point. Anytime a chamber is in session, ses-sion, you can send in a message to request to speak with any member. Be prepared to wait because there's a lot going on during Floor time. A bill that passes the chamber where it originated is then sent to the other chamber, where it must go through the same process. Bills amended and passed in the second chamber must go back to the originating chamber fro final passage.
