Show Page Six - The Springville Herald - May 9, 1990 O PORTS nn em ""1 2 Red Devil Baseball LjlJ The Red Devils bounced back from the loss to Spanish Fork with four wins to retain a solid lock on second place in Region Eight Baseball. Springville 4-Dixie 1 The Red Devils traveled to St. George on April 18 and had to go into extra innings before knocking off a scrappy Dixie team. Ryan Hamilton hit a triple to start the game, but the devil hitters were unable to score him. The Rebels scored one run on two hits in the first inning for their only score of the game. Ryan Hall hit a solo homerun in the third to knot the score at one, and it remained re-mained that way until the 8lh. The Red Devils loaded the bases four times, but could not get the key hit at the right time to score. In the top of the 8th, Ryan A verett reached first on an error, Kerry Oman drew a walk, and Ryan Hall singled to load the bases for the fifth time. This time, Springville got the break as Paul Creer walked and took the lead. Then added two insurance runs when Pat Bird singled to score Oman, and Robert Ellis hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Hall. Bird pitched a fine game, allowing only three hits and the defense made only one fielding error. Ryan Hall had two of Spring-ville's Spring-ville's six hits. Springville 4-Payson 3 Ryan Hall led off the fifth with a triple and Paul Creer scored him with a sacrifice fly to right field, enabling the Devils to beat the much-improved Payson Lions. Hall went 3 for 3 with a double, triple and scored two runs to lead the offense. Ryan Hamilton Hamil-ton had two hits and two stolen bases, Paul Creer had two RBI's and Robert Ellis had three walks. Bryan Oakey pitched a terrific ball game, giving up only 4 singles while striking out six. Springville 10-Pineview 10-Pineview 0 The Red Devils put together perhaps their finest game so far this year in shutting out the Panthers of Pineview. The Red Devils jumped all over the Pineview pitching for seven runs on seven hits in the first inning and coasted out from there. The defense was flawless, flaw-less, making no errors and turning a perfectly executed double play in the fifth. Ryan Hall led the hit parade, collecting 3, including a double in the fifth that drove the 10th run to end the game in five innings. Ryan Hamilton had two hits and scored three runs. Kerry Oman and Paul Creer had two hits apiece and Shad Messick had two RBI's. Pat Bird had his best outing of the year on the mound, allowing Springville's 480 So. Springville 17-Cedar City 5 Ryan Hall hit two doubles and two homcruns and had seven runs batted in to lead Springville in a romp over Region 8 foe Cedar City. The Red Devils scored two runs in the first on the strength of Hall's first double to take the early lead. Springville's catcher, Shad Messick, led off the second inning with a solo homerun. The Redmen of Cedar City picked up one run in the second and four in the fifth and made a close game of it at that point. But the Devils added an insurance run in the sixth and blew it wide open in the seventh. Hall started the inning with a screaming line drive way over the right field fence and then on the next pitch, Paul Creer hit one that looked just like an instant replay. re-play. The Devils then batted through the lineup to Hall again, who immediately launched a high towering blast well out of center field, and once again Creer took the very next pitch over the right field wall. Pal Bird hit a triple and a double for Springville, Kerry Oman had two hits and scored three runs, Robert Elllis was hit by pitches twice. Hall picked up the pitching victory scattering five hits in five innings in-nings while fanning eight. Ryan Averett pitched two innings in-nings of one hit relief.
