The following students were selected as 'Citizens of the Month' for December at the Springville Jr. High School. 9th Grade Jerry Jordan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Jordan. He is the grandson of Mrs. Evelyn Jordan of Springville and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Daniels of Payson. Jerry has two older brothers, Kyle, serving a mission in Canada, and Korry, a senior in high school. He also has a younger sister and brother, JoElle, 6th grade and Kelly, 3rd grade. Jerry enjoys golf, baseball, and basketball and he is now playing for the Springville Jr. High 9th grade team. He enjoys water skiing in the summer. Robert J. Merrill, Jr. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Merrill of Springville. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Merrill of Salem and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley W. Harris of Lawrence, Kansas. His great-grandmother is Edith Harris of Lawrence, Kansas. He moved here from Lawrence in 1979. Joey is in the Springville High School Marching Band and he is on the Honor Roll at Springville Jr. High. Britni Whittle was bom April 3, 1972. Her parents are Cyril and Viki Whittle. She has two brothers, 11 and 17, and one twin sister. The twins look alike, but they have their own unique personalities. Britni has many hobbies and interests-jogging, interests-jogging, swimming, and dancing are her favorites. Her favorite subject in school in English. Britni loves life. Brandi Whittle is the daughter of Cyril and Viki Whittle. Her hobbies are dancing, reading, and most sports. She loves music. Brandi lived in Provo for ten years before coming to Springville four years ago. Brandi has two brothers and a twin sister, Britni. Her favorite subject in school is English. Family, school and church are important to Brandi. 8th Grade Keri Mendenhall is the daughter of Betty Mendenhall and Dr. John P. V Robert Evans, left, counselor in the state prison minimum security staff, spoke to the Kiwanis Club Thursday evening. Dell Diamond, right, served as toastmaster. Mr. Evans said that in 1971, when he first began work at the prison, there were 368 inmates. As of today there are 1,900. He reported that all people sent to the prison for convicted crimes had one desire, that of finding a way to avoid punishment and to devise a scheme for escaping. He exhibited a number of articles made by the prisoners to assist them in escape attempts. Included were knives, jewel box and fruit cans as well as many picks. This Thursday the Kiwanis Club will meet at 7 a.m. for a breakfast meeting to allow members to attend the BYl' basketball game that evening. Mendenhall. She is the sixth of seven children, having five brothers and one sister. Singing, playing the piano, water skiing and snow skiing are activities she loves. Keri enjoys studying the human body and hopes to be a doctor some day. Another goal for Keri is to run the St. George Marathon. She also hopes to visit Russia when she is older. Nanette Albach is the daughter of Doug and Cindy Albach. She is the first of five children. Nanette has three younger brothers and a two-year-old baby sister. She lived in Texas for ten years and moved to Springville last June. Nanette loves Texas and hopes to return there some day. She would like to attend BYU and study veterinary science, interior decorating or teaching. Another ambition of Nanette's is to travel in Europe, especially Germany. Ger-many. Mark Tobler is the son of Bryan and Iris Tobler. He enjoys playing basketball and participating in the band. His hobbies include playing the piano, fishing, and collecting tapes to play on his stereo. Mark is very inventive and enjoys finding new ways to do things. Chad Gottfredson is the son of Bob W. and Glenna Gottfredson. He is the youngest of three. Chad enjoys sports, watching and participating. He has played football and basketball the last two years, and baseball from T-ball up. He really enjoys skiing and has taken both the Bronze and Gold in racing. Chad is an avid camper. Camping with his family and enjoying the family three-wheeler is much of his summer sum-mer recreation. Chad has been Super Citizen last year in 7th grade and has been given several honor awards for achievement throughout his school years. When Chad was a Cub Scout he was nominated for Cub Scout of the Year from our area and region. Chad is now a scout, working towards his Eagle. Chad is active in the LDS Church, holding many positions in the youth programs. He is presently serving as 1st counselor in the Deacon's quorum. "! " a . .
