' ' - ' f 4r ' fc:4" ss.5f f u Daniel Christensen, Pattie Hazelwood Mark Carpenter to marry Arizona girl Cindy Brown, daughter of the late Richard A. Brown and Marlys A. Brown of Salt Lake City, will be married Saturday, January 17, 1987, to Mark J. Carpenter, son of Alice Carpenter of Springville, in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The bride, a 1979 graduate of Brighton High School, is an ex-ray technician at the Phoenix Arizona Memorial Hospital, having graduated from the Utah Valley Hospital School of Radiology. The groom graduated from Springville High School in 1979. He served an LDS mission in the Columbus, Colum-bus, Ohio Mission and at the Nauvoo Restoration Site. He is a 1985 graduate from BYU with a degree in public relations and is presently working as the publications editor in the Marketing Communications Department of the First Interstate Bank of Arizona. Following a honeymoon, the couple will reside in Phoenix. An open house in their honor will be held Friday, January 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the LDS chapel at 2522 East 6710 South, Salt Lake City. All friends and relatives are invited. Daniel Christensen Pattie Hazelwood wedding Friday Pattie Suzanne Hazelwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Hazelwood of Cocoa Beach, Florida, will marry Daniel R. Christensen, son of Madge Hay-mond Hay-mond of Springville and Leroy Christensen of St. George. The ceremony will take place Friday, January 16, 1987, at the groom's mother's home in Springville. An open house will honor the couple that evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Madge Haymond's, 170 South 100 East, Springville. No formal invitations have been sent. The matron of honor will be Veronica Owens Best men will be Steve Christensen and Glenn Miller The bride-elect graduated from Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia. She is now attending Utah Technical College majoring in accounting. She is employed at Signetics in Orem. The prospective groom graduated from Springville High School and Utah Technical College in the field of electronics technology. He is also employed at Signetics. The couple will live in Provo. Welsh elected President of Riverside Club William J. Welsh, Jr., a Springville resident, has been elected as president of the Riverside Country Club for 1987. Mr. Welsh, also the president of the Credit Bureau of Provo, will be heading up the country club while it will be undergoing an extensive refurbishing and remodeling project. Other newly-elected board members are: Stan Collins, Ed Higgins, Kent Nelson and Neva Thomas, all of Provo. Mr. Welsh, a former resident of Price, and a former mayor of that city for several years, is married to the former Audrey Brinkerhoff Tyan also of Springville. January 11, H)K7 - The Springville Herald - Page Five Pari Passu Club meets The Pari Passu Club met on Jan. 8 at the home of Maryn Johnson. Marva Taylor was the assisting hostess. Pres. Anna Marie Palfreyman welcomed all those present and read a special thought for attaining happiness in the new year. She also read a "thank you" note received from the 'Festival of Trees" committee for the quilt the club made and donated to it. She also received a note from the Veteran's Hospital for the 20 bags that were donated to their Christmas fund for the patients. Marva Taylor's granddaughter, Emily Taylor, entertained with a piano solo, and a vocal solo. Afterwards Af-terwards table games were played by those present: Anna Marie Palfreyman, Erma Bird, Naomi Gardner, Ida Lewis, La Von Hansen, Marva Taylor, Lorene Savage, Erma Bird, Anna Ostlund, Marie Johnson, Yvonne Johnson, Dorothy Hazel, Maryn Johnson and Emily Taylor. The Robert Gabbitas Family William J.Welsh Camp Cottonwood learns history Camp Cottonwood, DUP held their January meeting at the home of Evelyn Riding with Margaret Campbell conducting the meeting. Evelyn Wright gave an interesting history of her grandmother, Sabra JaneBeckstead Rust Hatch. Sabra's father, Sydney Marcus Beckstead, and wife came to Utah in 1853, where Sabra was born in a covered wagon box in October, as their cabin was not yet finished. At age 16, she became the plural wife of George Rust and 18 months later, she had a son. This son was Evelyn Wright's father. The marriage of George and Sabra ended in divorce. She later married (teorge Hatch who had two sons and they became the parents of 12 more children. Sabra nursed many people in Piute County for 30 years. She held all kinds of offices in the church and worked in both the Manti and Salt Lake temples. She was a wonderful grandmother and she died at age 92 in Provo. Ilene Coffman gave the lesson on The public is invited to hear a concert by the finalists of the Opera West Vocal Competition at 7:30 p.m. Homemakers Club active in Springville The Springville Chapter of the Utah Homemakers Club has been busy the past few months with fun and fulfilling meetings. In November they did a service project. They selected a family and helped with Christmas for them. The club purchased gifts for the children, tied a quilt for the parents and purchased food items. In December the club had a deomonstration on party food for the holidays. The January meeting was very informative Club members heard from Mike Murray of the Nebo School District. He talked about communicating with children. Quilt guild schedules meetings The Utah Valley quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, January 21, at 2 p.m. at the Eldred Center, 270 West 5th North, Provo. Home Culture Club on Saturday, January 17 at the Springville Art Museum. This event is co-sponsored by Opera West and the Springville Arts Commission. Tickets are available at the door. Competitors will be judged that afternooon by well-known teacher-vocalists teacher-vocalists Debbie Mitchell of Provo and Joy Mclntyre of Utah State University. The evening concert will allow the public to hear some of the finest voices in the state of all ages. Ann Baltz, a nationally recognized vocal coach and accompanist, will work with the finalists the following day at 2 p.m. in the Art Museum. The pubic is invited to attend as she coaches the singers, makes the final selection of the winners, and gives the awards. Ms. Baltz is currently Music Director for the Midwest Opera touring out of Minneapolis, and Assistant Music Director and Vocal Coach for the Orlando Opera. Her many credits include positions with the Portland Opera, San Francisco Opera's Western Opera Theatre, West Bay Opera, and the Minnesota Opera Summer Institute. .... :&vr- . President Helen Davies welcomed the club members and Grace Allman read the club collect. A delicious lunch was served, gifts were exchanged and club members enjoyed a tour of the newly decorated, old home. Hortense Harward and Mary Sanford made a baby quilt and donated to the Festival of Trees in behalf of the club. Socks were also given to the local nursing homes. This was spearheaded by Margaret Conover. The January meeting will be held on Friday at the home of Deon Perry.
