He was born Dec. 6, 1950, at Richfield, Utah, to Glen F. and Carol Cherrington Clark. He married Victoria Ellen Russell May 29, 1971. They were later sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. She was born May 19, 1923, in Provo to William D. and Melissa Kerby Brown She married Vernon C. Damico, May 29, 1940, in Provo. The marriage was latter solemnized in the Provo Temple. A sister, Mrs. Tony (Ada) Medved, lives in Mapleton. Cecil Curtis Cecil Jane Rowley Curtis, 74, died Wednesday, Wed-nesday, April 25, 1984, in Salt Lake City. She was born Feb. 24, 1910, in Colonia Diaz, Chihuahua. Mexico, to Jesse Noah and Lucy Alvina Norton Rowley. She married John Marvin Curtis, Jan. 7, 1929, in Provo. He married Alene Hawkins, Sept. 14, 1929, in Provo. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He was educated in Springville' schools. He worked for U.S. Steel Geneva Works and retired in 1974. He was a member of the LDS Church, Provo 11th Ward and was an elder. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. She was born April 9, 1893 in Beaver to Moses Edwards and Harriett Marintha Baker. She married Benjamin Franklin Pendleton on December 23, 1914 in the St. George Temple. A son, F. Owen Pendleton, lives in Springville Burial was in the Provo City Cemetery. Mary Nixon Mary Louise Staley Nixon, 52, of Provo. died Tuesday, April 24, 1984, of heart failure. She was born July 22, 1931 in Ogden to William Nephi and Edith Lolita Metsker Staley. She married James E. Nixon July 24, 1954 in Provo. They later divorced. A son, James H. Nixon, resides in Springville. r f Garth Rasmussen receives Doctoral Garth L. Rasmussen of Springville. a seminary instructor for the LDS Church Education System for the past six years, was among 28 students who received doctoral degrees April 20 from Brigham Young University. A 1973 graduate of Provo High School, Dr. Rasmussen earned the Ph.D. degree in instructional science through the College of Education. His dissertation investigated the effectiveness of various memory aides in helping seminary students learn selected Bible passages. He earned a bachelor's degree in zoology in 1978 and a master's degree in instructional science in 1980 from BYU. Dr. Rasmussen has authored the book, "Making the Personalities of the Old Testament Live,'' and has been a Book of Mormon lands tour director. At BYU he won a dean's scholarship for four years. A son of Lloyd E. and Nadine Rasmussen of Provo, he served a mission to Japan for the LDS Church and taught Japanese at the Mission Livestock show opens The Diamond Jubilee, 60th annual Utah State Junior Livestock Show opens in Spanish Fork today, May 2nd thru May 5th. Activities are planned continuously from 3 p.m. Wednesday through the end of the market livestock sale Saturday afternoon. . Entries for the show were recorded record-ed and indicate that there are 55 Market Beef - 35 in 4-H and 20 in FFA. In Breeding Beef there are 15 in 4-H and 7 FFA. The Commercial Heifer Division has 15 entries. Entries En-tries in the Market Hog Division are 168 - 70 in FFA and 98 in 4-H. Hog Carcass Contest has 14 entries. Market Lambs have 142 which is nearly double from last year. There will be 84 4-H and 16 FFA individual exhibitors. Forty-two exhibitors will be exhibiting two lambs. Breeding Sheep in the Junior Division will have 56 entries. Twenty six in 4-H and 20 in FFA. There will be 10 exhibited ex-hibited in the open division. There will be 25 entries in the Junior Dairy. - The SprinKville Marie Pearl Marie Nelson Black, 75, Springville, died of a lingering illness Saturday, April 28, 1984, at her home. She was born Jan. 30, 1909, in Springville to Andrew V. and Pearl Strong Nelson. She married George Merle Black, April 19, 1927, in Springville. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in many positions in the Primary and Relief Society auxiliary organizations for 35 years. She participated in ward choirs and was an original member of the Musettes Choir. Ellis Walter Ellis Bird, 89, of Springville, died Thursday April 26, 1984, at Utah Valley Valley Regional Medical Center, of causes incident in-cident to age. He was born October 11, 1894, at Springville, the son of Walter Freeman, and Lucinda Childs Bird, He married Josephine Wing Dec. 16. 1914, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Salt Lake Temple. She died in 1962. He married Rebecca Miner Jensen July 27, 1962. He was educated in Springville Schools, and was a member of the first graduating class of Springville High School in 1912. He was a resident of Springville all of his life, and was a member of the LDS Church, holding the office of High Priest, and was a home teacher for over fifty years. In his early life, he worked for D4RGW Railroad, H.T. Reynolds Hard-ward Hard-ward store, Springville City, and as a custodian for the Nebo School Make carpet cleaner and deodorizer by combining two cups cornmeal with a cup of borax. On Thursday will be the judging of all market animals beginning at 9 a.m. with the Market Swine continu ing with the Market Beef at 1 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. with the Market Lambs. On Friday, the breeding animals and dairy will be judged. The Junior Horse Events and the calf scramble will be Friday afternoon after-noon and the Exhibitors Jamboree Friday evening. The sale of all market livestock will be Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with the market hogs first followed by the Market Lambs and the Market Beef.
