Show Page Kight Tlie Springville Herald February 22, 198 1 Springville Last Friday was the Springville Red Devils' last home game of the season. They went up against Payson where they caged the Lions 86-69. Before the game started the senior team members were honored with plaques. They were Darren Guff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Guff, Eric Jacobsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Jacobsen. Chris Child, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Child, Justin Shur-tleff, Shur-tleff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shurtleff, and Jeff Given, son of Ms. Madaline Given. Darren Guff had his best game of the season so far. He finished with a team high of 31 points. Springville out ready to play and Darren Guff goes up for a shot to help Springville win over Payson in their last home game Friday night. Darren scored 30 points to lift the Red Devils past Payson for an 86-69 win. March Lessons Springville Community Pool announces the March session of Learn-to-Swim Lessons. The lessons will start Monday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m. The session will run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for ten lessons. There will be classes available for the beginner through the advanced swimmer. Also starting on Tuesday March 6, the very popular Aqua jazz Class will resume. The class will be held at 9:00 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month. Aquajazz is an aerobics exercise class done entirely in the pool. Ann Averett will be the instructor. The month of March would be a good month for those who plan to swim on the summer recreation swim league to start back as this will help them to get back into shape for the summer. Swimteam workouts go from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Aces (Art City Expert Swimmers) program is looking for new swimmers who are interested in improving their swimming strokes and joining the swimteam. The Aces workout Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. For more information on any of the above classes call 489-3201 or stop by at 1015 East 900 South. Justin Shurtleff was quick on rebounds, finishing with 17 in all. His height seemed to have a domineering affect on Payson as they were forced to shoot from outside the key. Springville saw a lot of action from guard Eric Jacobsen. He was a great defensive hustler and responsible for a couple of steals. Springville played aggressive defense, keeping Payson from scoring many points. Guff's scoring in the first quarter put Springville well ahead of Payson, tripleing the score 21-7 at one time. Goethe do if again! The devils' offense was hot and looking great in the second quarter. Payson worked to close the gap in points, but Springville wouldn't let them stay too close and increased the lead. Eric Jacobsen got into foul trouble and Gary Wiscombe was put in. He scored two points. Jeff Given fouled out the end of the 3rd quarter, scoring two points early in the game. The J V. team was put in, doing a great job against Payson. Kelly Curtis scored 5 points. Shurtleff finished with 18 points, Les Chappell with 10, Chris Child with 6, and Jacobsen with 12. The Devils' next game is at Price Fri. Feb. 24, as they battle the Carbon Dinos. Game time is 7:30. Jeff Given is shown in action against Payson Friday. The Red Devil team will play two more games in region play. Springville High School is proud of their mighty, mighty Red Devil Seniors. These five boys, who will be graduating this spring, were honored at the last home game against Payson Friday. They have been largely responsible for keeping Springville on top in Region Eight play.
