Savers Rookie of the Year Each year the SAVERS members choose a new member of the group to be Rookie Of The Year. The honor for 1984 goes to Fritz Black, who joined the group in 1983. Fritz has exhibited dedication and responsibility by constantly developing his EMT skills, carrying several shifts a month, showing empathy and concern to the patients he cares for, and fulfilling extra assignments that are given to him. Fellow crew members find him to be dependable and supportive when they are working together, as well as thorough in assessing the patient's needs. Helene Davis passed the award on to Mr. Black. She was the last recipient of the award. Fritz is married to the former Peggy Prothero of Springville and they have one child. His parents are both currently members of SAVERS, Kass and George Black. Besides his volunteer work with the ambulance, Fritz is an independent salesman for Kar Products. Our SAVERS SAFETY TIP is: Buckle your Babies! Fritz would be the first to say that no ambulance Rapid rise yeast speeds bread baking There's a new yeast product available that may drastically decrease the total time required to make bread at home. According to Dr. Georgia Lauritzen, Extension nutrition specialist at Utah State University, this new strain of yeast is being sold under the trade name "RapidRise." This new type of yeast has been available to commercial bakeries for several years, but is only now being marketed to the public, Lauritzen says. She says tests indicate the entire mixing and baking process time can be reduced to the length of time normally required for rising only. The dough 'rises about 50 percent faster than with regular yeast. Lauritzen says she suspects that "RapidRise" yeast may cause bread to rise even faster at Utah altitudes. If you experiement with the new yeast, make your usual altitude adjustments to sea level recipes and watch the rising time carefully, she suggest. She notes that package directions on "RapidRise" also call for altering mixing process by adding all the required yeast to the dry ingredients and then adding hotter than usual liquids to the dry ingredients. The eight finalists are: Ann Paystrup, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Paystrup; Janette Roylance, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Roylance; Chris Wing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wing; Julie Crandall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crandall; Laurie Osick, daughter of Mrs. Linda Osick; Amy Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wright; Jan Tuttle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tuttle; and Maralle Bate, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bate. - - V- 7 Fritz Black run is as heart stopping as one that involves an injured child. Children are easily injured in auto accidents, but the trauma is worse when they are on an adult's lap and crushed between the adult and the dashboard in a sudden stop or collision. 4 , ' Jaime Marie Lucas, little daughter of Christine Lucas, will celebrate her first birthday on February 22, 1984.
