SpringvilU, Utah 489-7109 Senior Citizens will discuss the 'joys of winter7 Friday, Feb. 10, the after lunch discussion topic for Springville-Mapleton Springville-Mapleton Senior Citizens will be "The Joy of Winter." Certainly one of the greatest joys of the winter of 1984 is for senior citizens to once again be able to resume activities in a newly renovated hall. The center closed January 20 and is now offering a full schedule of senior citizen activities once, again. The topic for discussion on Friday was suggested by several senior citizens making mixed remarks about our winter. Some of these are: "What's good about it?" "I'm so sick of this winter!" "Will it never end?" "I've just got to go somewhere!" and "Isn't nature wonderful?" Boyd Nelson will suggest that seniors will be happier if they take a positive attitude toward our winter. Snow and frost are beautiful. Nothing is more satisfying than a fire in the fireplace. A trip to Yellowstone, Park City or even Elko is more fun in cold weather. This winter has been especially exciting because of watching deer, pheasants and birds in our back yards. We have no lawns to cut, weeds to pull or leaves to rake. Springtime will offer even more joys when contrasted with some winter harshness. Senior Citizens are asked to contribute thoughts on the joys of winter which might make life more joyful for everyone. At the last discussion period in January the topic was "Just a little hug." The various types of hugs were demonstrated according to appropriate usage. All agreed that hugs are important to happiness, health and success. A group of approximately 100 senior citizens joined in a lively discussion to mark the final activity before the center closed for renovations. Mapleton firemen meet The Mapleton Firemen's Auxiliary held its first meeting of the year on January 26, at the home of Vicki Jones. Dr. Robert D. Jones was the guest speaker for the occasion. He discussed how we can create our own happiness inspite of the many pressures and demands that often face us. The Mapleton Firemen entertained en-tertained their wives at the annual Installation Banquet held Feb. 4 at the Mapleton City Building. A delicious dinner was provided with the assistance of the ladies of the Auxiliary, followed by comments com-ments from the new officers in the fire department. New officers for the year are Gene Nielsen, chief; Dan Morgan and Norman Bingham, assistant chiefs; Wynn Everett, secretary; Dean Warren, treasurer; Mike Deming, Norman Barker, and John Bleggi, training officers. The Auxiliary's February meeting will be held at the Mapleton City Building on Feb. 15. We hope to see many out to work on the quilts for the July 24 fund raiser. School Lunch Menu Wed.
