PTA slates art project Since 1969, Reflections - the National PTA's cultural arts project - has encouraged hundreds of students to explore the cultural arts by expressing their thoughts and feelings through the visual arts, music, and literature. The Reflections project is designed to provide an opportunity for children and youth to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works of art. More than a quarter million students across the nation and on. American military bases in Europe participate in the project each year. Kindergarten through senior high school students interpret each year's theme in the visual arts by drawing, painting,' collage,', or printmaking; in music by composing com-posing original' scores; and in literature by writing poetry, prose, or drama. The 1983 84 theme is "I Have a Dream." The Reflections project is designed to give recognition to creative students as a means of encouraging them in the field of fine arts. ' The National PTA recognizes the talents of each student whose work reaches the national level with a certificate of commendation. These students are also honored with awards from project's sponsors. This program has just been introduced in-troduced for the first time at Springville High School. Teachers are encouraging students to participate par-ticipate in one of the three divisions. The Visual Arts division includes paintings, drawings, collage, printmaking and photography. Poetry, prose and drama comprise the Literature area while the Music division includes scores of original composition, with or without words. The deadline for judging on the local level is February 1, 1984. It is hoped that parents will encourage their students to enter the Reflections Reflec-tions project.
