Cost of the stamp is $3.30 for adults, $2.30 for licensed juveniles. Stamps must be signed by the angler to be valid. In waters that contain trout in combination with other fish species (Pineview, Deer Creek Reservoir, etc.), anglers are urged to acquire the stamp. Anglers without the stamp who catch trout must release them. Fishermen who do not purchase the trout stamp this summer may want to try their luck at some popular Utah waters where it won't be required. The following list of waters includes several top warm-water warm-water fisheries, where anglers can try their luck for bass, crappie, bluegill walleye and many other species: Northern Region: Bear Lake in Rich County, Cutler Reservoir in Cache County, the Bear River -downstream from Cutler Dam, and Willard Bay in Box Elder County. Central Region: Utah Lake in Utah County, the Jordan River in Utah and Salt Lake counties, Blue Lake in Tooele County, Yuba Reservoir and the Sevier River in Juab and Sanpete counties, and Gunnison Reservoir in Sanpete County. After finishing third in the 1600 meter run, she won the 400 meter run to become state champion. The girlt were almost disqualified dis-qualified from the meet when one of the runners failed to show. According Ac-cording to the official rules, this li grounds for disqualification. The Springville coaches appealed the rule, however, end the judges decided only to disqualify the relay team end allow the other runners to compete. "There for awhile It was touch and go," said relieved coach Doug Bills. "I'm glad to see the games committee recognized that the fault of one girl should not penalize the others after they have worked io hard U year to get this far." In other girls' action, Linda Burt finished second In the shot put, Jennifer Allen placed fifth In the 200 meter dash. The medley relay team of Amy Sparks, Tracey Carson, Tammy Williams, and Melanie Child finished second. The girls tram earned a total of 34 points to an to Chris Child (Most Back), and Steve of the f rout Bend and D.M.A.D. reservoirs in Millard County, Ivins Reservoir and Gunlock Reservoir in Washington County, and Lake Powell in Kane and Garfield counties. Southeastern Region: Huntington North Reservoir in Emery County, the Green River, Colorado River and Lake Powell in Carbon, Emery, Grand, Wayne and San Juan counties, coun-ties, and the San Juan River in San Juan County. Trout Stamp is the law Utah fishermen who go after trout this summer without a trout stamp won't get off with just a slap on the wrist. That's the word from Division of Wildlife Resources Law Enforcement En-forcement Chief Paul Woodbury. He says that wildlife conservation officers of-ficers owe it to the state's 300,000 plus law abiding sportsmen who will buy the stamp to cite the few who choose to ignore the new requirement. Woodbury is concerned con-cerned that too many fishermen are getting the idea they won't be ticketed for failure to buy the stamp. "That just isn't true," says Woodbury. Wood-bury. "Like it or not, the trout stamp requirement is a law; it's our job to inforce the law, and that's what we entend to do." Trout Stamp Gets Mixed Reviews Don Austin may have grumbled to himself last week when he bought finish fifth In the state. The boys' team also met with success last weekend. Reed Smith made his best throw of the season In the shot put to earn him a sixth place. Darren Cluff placed fifth In the long jump, while the 400 meter relay team of Gary Miner, Eric Jacobsen, Jim Young and Darren Cluff took a third place. The medley relay team of Gary Miner, Eric Jacobsen, McKay Jensen and Brian Brooks also took a third place. The boys' team had i total of IS points, earning 11th place In the state. But he paid his $3.30 anyway. Austin, a 66-year old retired auto mechanic from Salt Lake City, bought stamp number 050001. When a reporter asked him what he thought about the trout stamp! the veteran fisherman paused a moment, then said, "Well, we do need to do something about our fisheries in the state; if this is the only way to do it, it's OK." Austin added, "If the trout stamp improves fishing, it's money well spent." Austin said he's been fishing Strawberry Reservoir on opening day for "years and years." Rhett Michelson, a 12-year old fishing enthusiast from Ogden, bought one of the first juvenile trout stamps after earning the $2.30 fee by "mowing the yard and cleaning my room." Young Michelson says he learned about the trout stamp at a boy scout meeting where a Division of Wildlife Resources officer talked about why more money was needed to rebuild the State's outdated trout hatcheries. Anglers all over Utah will be digging a little deeper this year to buy a trout stamp before making the traditional opening day pilgrimage to their favorite fishing spot. Although Division of Wildlife Resources officials expect there will be some grumbling about the stamp, they say the additional money is badly needed if Utahns are to continue con-tinue to enjoy quality trout fishing in the state.
