Show Page Six - The Springville Herald - May 26, 1983 Springville Playhouse will perform 'Forum' Springville Playhouse will present its first musical attempt, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," during Art City Days. The musical, directed by Jay Knight, will be performed in the Springville Civic Center Theater on June 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11. Advance tickets may be purchased pur-chased through cast members or at the Civic Center and the Library. Holders of Senior Citizen Cards will be admitted for $1.50 a 50 cent savings. Nightly performances will start at 7:30 p.m. Words and music for the musical are by Stephen Sondheim with the book by Larry Gelbart and Burt Shevelove. Special arrangements have been made through Music Theater International of New York. Springville City Recreation has assisted the Playhouse for many years in their productions through a small financial grant. Many experienced players are rehearsing nearly nightly for the musical event. Jay Knight, Karl Young, Kathy Young and Kevin Young have performed in the Playmill Summer Theater at West Yelowstone. Madeleine Giles has played female leads in several plays at Bountiful Community Theater and the Springville Community Theater. She is also leader of "Callione Kids," a group of 25 i children between 4-8 years of age. Ed Giles, also to be seen in the Oakridge meets label quota The faculty, parents, and students of the Oakridge School for han-' dicapped citizens would like to thank everyone who donated their soup labels to the school. Oakridge met their quota this year and will continue con-tinue with the program as long as the Campbell Company sponsors it. , Lena DeRose, label chairman, said the school was able to collect 75,000 labels this year. In exchange, the school will receive a color video camera, Touch and Tell, Speak and Spell, Magic Wand, number plaques, International Globe, Alpha Block Wagon, and Little Professors. The school needs only the front portion of labels from Campbell soups, Franco-American products, Campbell Beans, Campbell Tomato Juice, V-8 Juice, Swanson products, Prego spaghetti sauce, and Prego dog food. Brent Lundell, one of the leads, has sung in 13 musicals and played many leading roles. Jeff Young has been involved in high school drama and music. Jim Quist plays violin and piano. Ann Graves, vivacious dramatic student, has participated in several high school productions and is an accomplished pianist. She played in "Winnie the Poo," Dave Reeves has one of the leading roles in the musical and draws from a two year experience at the University of Utah. Omar Hansen portrays the old man in the musical. He has been seen in several Playhouse productions and is currently serving as a board member of the group. He also is a member of the Mendelssohn choral group. Ryan McQuivey has come up through Springville Playhouse youth productions over the past 4 years. He is a member of the choir and has received a special award from the Drama Guild for his participation. All voice parts are needed. Those interested in singing with the Chorale should have previous experience ex-perience in other choral organizations, should have had professional voice training, and should be able to sight read music easily. Former members of the BYU A Capella Choir are particularly invited to join the Chorale. Auditions will be held May 31, June 1 and 2. For appointments call Kay Honaker, 224-2302. For the coming year, the Ralph Woodward Chorale has already scheduled full season. A pre-season special is coming up June 29 as part of PrOvo's Freedom Festival. The group will perform "Music America Loves Best." Beginning in the fall, the traditional season of concerts will be held in the Provo Tabernacle, and the Chorale has also scheduled out-of-town performances.
