J ufcl These three young homemakers from Springville High School won the table setting contest on Tuesday. Tues-day. Their entries will be judged at ZCMI I'niversi- ty Mall against other winners from the county. They are Peggy Pickering, left. Elizabeth Bird, and Teresa Ith. A dramatic writer's table in black and white, complete com-plete with typewriter and notepad. A Fourth-of-July ' picnic f est. An elegant gold and blue velvet arrangement. These were only a few of the numerous creative place settings to be found at the Springville High School annual table setting contest held on Tuesday: The contest is sponsored spon-sored by the Future Homemakers of America and supported by ZCMI. There were over 40 entries, en-tries, and three of the entries were selected to Represent SHS in the region finals, to be held at (the ZCMI store in the University MalL i Elizabeth Wright, (laughter of Lynne Heathe and Richard Wright, was one of the three winners. Elizabeth takes many courses in the homemaking area at Springville High, and she has won many awards in this field. Her setting, -entitled "Supper at the Hearth," was a dark green, old fashioned arrangement, featuring fine porcelain and antique books. Another of the winners was Peggy Pickering, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennie Pickering. Her entry. "Country Breakfast," Break-fast," was a light setting of stoneware and dried flowers on a light blue tablecloth. The third winner was Teresa Ith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ith. "An -. All American Favorite" featured a very original concept: a glass "false table" was the base of the setting, held up by several shiny, red apples.1 The arrangement consisted of a bright red placemant, a freshly baked apple pie, and a basket of crisp apples. The settings were judged by three representatives of ZCMI. One of the judges, on announcing the winners, remarked. "We have not difficult year. 1 have had a more decision all never been to a school with more creativity or talent." The works of 15 students- from Mapleton Elementary School were recently chosen to be submitted for regional judging by the Reflections Reflec-tions Program, a division of the Individual Development Commission Com-mission of the National PTA. The purpose of the program is to encourage creative expression among public school students in the form of visual arts, literature and music. The works of Mapleton's finalists will be judged against other regional winners. Winners Win-ners will then be judged on a state and national basis. The seven finalists in the literature division were Tina Preston, Joanna Hanks, Ryan Deming, Kevin Bess, Kim Godfrey Andrea Frischknecht and Jennifer Jen-nifer Watts. The seven finalists in the visual arts division were Deoun Uy, Lauralyn Jensen, Lisa Meir, Arny Banks, Rose Marie Chidester, Shawn Thompson , and Beth Dawn. Mrs. Dianne Wittusen of Mapleton PTA was responsible for bringing the program to the school. There was one finalist in the music division, Devonny Worwood. Milton Three gain Ricks honor The honor roll at Ricks College for the fall semester has been released by the Director of Records. The roll lists all students at Ricks who take at least 14 hours of credit and receive an overall 3.5 grade point average. Ricks the largest privately-owned junior college in America-, had an enrollment last fall of 6.750. Students on the honor roll include three from Springville: Sandra Lee Binks, Roberta Valdez, C.
