Show Local women leaders hear announcement of upcoming worldwide "Tribute to Women" Springville and Mapleton Relief Society, Young Womens and Primary stake workers joined other area slake leaders in Provo last Thursday at a news conference and luncheon to announce "A Tribute to Women" which will be presented worldwide, by the LDS Church in March. Relief Society President Barbara B. Smith. Primary President Dwan J. Young, . and Young Women President Elaine A. CaAnon explained the upcoming events and encouraged local leaders to hold similar events on a region or stake basis honoring outstanding women in various fields locally. Exploration of the personal and public challenges and opportunities op-portunities of being a woman are the focus of the series of events sponsored by the combined com-bined women's organizations of the Church. The series is called "A Tribute to Women: The Legacy-Remembered and Renewed." The presentations will take place March 17 through March 27, principally in Salt Lake City, but concerts will also be held in five other locations, Oakland, Los Angeles, Forth Worth, Dallas, and Washington D C. Some of the events will be videotaped for later presentation. "A Tribute to Women" will include concerts performed by women, sh-colarly sh-colarly papers written and presented by women, home and community service projects organized and produced by women. "Some of the presentations presen-tations will be reminders from history of the role and scope of -woemn's influence in the past; some will deal with w omen of the present and with their contributions to many different aspects of life; and some will explore ex-plore new opportunities and options. All would be grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ and His message that we are all. men and women alike, God's eternal creations. Our opportunities for growth are limitless. The responsibility for achieving growth is our own." the trio told local leaders. A reception will be held in their honor from 7 to 9 this evening at the Springville Museum of Art. The reception is open to friends. Parents of the couple are Karl W. and Rayma Allred of Springville,. and Rex D. Peterson and the late Dawn Ella Peterson of Orem. The bride is a senior at Orem High School. She w ore her mother's wedding gown. Mr. Allred is a graduate of Springville High School and is a member of the Mormon Y outh Symphony. He served an LDS mission in the Georgia Atlanta Mis sion. Quilt Guild to meet The Utah Valley Quilt Guild will meet Thursday. Thur-sday. February 18, at 3:30 p.m. in the Scera Theatre lobby in Orem. The meeting will last an hour and a half, with special demonstrations being given. Membership in the Guild is open and all those interested in quilting are welcome. Meetings will continue to be held monthly. The family of Philda Finley will honor her with an open house to celebrate her 85th birthday bir-thday on Sunday, February 14 from 3 to 6 p.m. at her home, 590 N. 200 East, Springville. She was born Feb. 19, 1897 in Washington, Utah, to Melvin and Ruth Pearce Roylance. She married Arthur Finley Dec. 23, 1916, in Springville. The marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple. The couple lived in Springville all their married life. Mr. Finley died July 25, 1971. Mrs. Finley has two sons, Paul R. Finley of Las Vegas, Nevada, and A. Calvin Finley of Springville; five grandchildren grand-children and two greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. She has been active in the LDS Church most of her life. The family requests no gifts.
