Filling began last year, but had to be postponed until spring 1980 due to insufficient runoff. "A very strict filling criteria has been established and an extensive ex-tensive lighting system has been installed to allow 24-hour observation of the dam," Plummer said. When the water level reaches an elevation of 9,120 feet above sea level, it will be held constant for a week while the dam is monitored. This process will be repeated at 9,130 feet, then the level will be XlowLto. raise to 9145 feet where it will remain throughout the summer. The reservoir could completely fill sometime next year, depending on runoff conditions. Stateline Dam will create a reservoir that will cover 1,200 acres and will impound 14,000 acre-feet acre-feet of water for municipal and industrial use, fish and wildlife, recreation, irrigation and flood control. Construction on the earthfill dam began Spring 1977, and was completed last year. S.J. Groves and Sons, El Cajon, CA, was the principal contractor for the project. To save gas, you can help reduce friction by driving with your windows win-dows closed or open only a crack. That cuts down air turbulence. Even if you have to turn on the air-conditioning, you're likely to save fuel if you have a modern, efficient system. Also, if you can, avoid carrying things on the roof of your car. That increases air resistance and causes your engine to guzzle more gas than it normally would.
