Vice Captain Violet Diamond conducted the meeting. The invocation was given by Chaplain Clara Boyer. The pledge of allegiance.to the flag was given. The opening song, "Tell Me With Your Eyes," was sung with Josephine Conover at the organ. A history was given by Eva Hone on her great-great great-great grandfather Lucius N. Scovil. The song "Polly Wally Doodle" was sung with Josephine Conover at the organ. , The lesson, "Locality Histories," was given by lesson leader Mary Swartz. Refreshments were served to sixteen members by hostesses Ida Fullmer and Joy Peugh. The March meeting will be held at the home of May Isaacson. club news social events weddings Scott Phillips to marry Provo girl in temple Friday Vernis Madsen, Provo, and Roland Madsen, Richfield, Calif, have announced the engagement of their daughter Linda to Scott Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ridge Phillips, Springville. The bouple plans to be married Friday in the Provo LDS Temple. A reception to honor them will be held in the Schonwald Terrace Reception Center at the top of the Orem hill, Orem, the same evening, 7-9 p.m. The bride-to-be is a graduate of a 1977 graduate of Olympus High School, Salt Lake City, and attended Brigham Young University for 2 lk years. She plans to resume her education there, majoring in special education, soon. She was a cheerleader at BYU for 2 years. The groom is a 1977 graduate of Springville High School. He is attending Brigham Young University, majoring in accounting, and plans to attend law school after graduation. The couple plans to make their first home in Provo. Miss Springville deadline set for March 10 The Ninth Annual Miss Springville Scholarship Pageant, being presented by the Alpha Theta Chapter of ESA, is under way with a search for candidates. Linda Eaton, general chairman of the pageant, is calling for any qualified young women from the Springville area to enter the Pageant. To qualify, a young woman must be between the ages of 17 and 26 on the Labor Day holiday, must be a high school graduate by Labor Day and must never have been married. Talent will be considered con-sidered in the judging and each contestant should possess some quality of talent, either trained or potential. Mrs. Eaton said the range is varied and no young woman must necessarily be trained in any specific field. Urging local businesses and organizations to sponsor candidates, she said each member of the organization should consider the young women they know per sonally, relatives or daughters of friends, and should encourage them to enter the pageant. Individual In-dividual young women are urged to submit their own names as entries. Personality, poise, beauty and talent are the major requirements. Each contestant will be judged in private interview, in-terview, evening gown, swimsuit and the presentation of her talent. Applications can be obtained by calling Kathy Groneman at 489-4583. Deadline for entries is March 10. Women's council to meet The Women's Legislative Council will meet March 6 at the women's clubhouse in Provo at 9:30 a.m. The taxation and finance committee will be in charge. Speakers will be Harrison Conover, county assessor who will talk on administering changes in the new tax laws, and Jack Olsen, executive vice president of the Utah Taxpayers association, who will speak on the tax rebate and the tax limitation laws. w . . - " " ' At last week's Kiwanis Club Alberta Hoover, (right) shown with toastmaster LuDean Litster, interpreted constitutional law by having elementary students from the Grant School and Kiwanis Club members participate in oral readings written by Mrs. Hoover. Scott Phillips, Linda Madsen Denise Breuninger, Wallace Bishop Springville couple plans March 8 rites Denise Annette Breuninger and Wallace E. Bishop are planning to be married on March 8 in the Provo LDS Temple. An open house will honor them that evening at the Orem 41st Ward Cultural Hall, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited. Parents of the bride-to-be are Larry E. Breuninger, Springville, and Mrs. Annette Breuninger, Orem. Parents of the prospective bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Bishop, Springville. Miss Breuninger is a graduate of Orem High School and LDS Seminary. She also graduated from Utah Technical College in Provo as a dental assistant. She is currently employed in Provo. Bishop graduated from Springville High School and LDS Seminary. He served a LDS mission in the Japan Fukuoka Mission. He is presently attending the UTC in Provo. Attending the bride as maid of honor will be her sister, Michelle Breuninger. Bridal attendants will be another sister, , Mrs. Lisa Stuart, Mrs. Dwana Durrant, Mrs. DaNece Maag, and two sisters of the bridegroom, Barbara and Mary Bishop. Serving as best man will be Lynn Bartholomew. Prenuptial showers were given by Mrs. Lisa Stuart, Mrs. DaNece Maag and Mrs. Dwana Durrant, and by Mrs. LaRene Beckstrom and Sheri Seely. The couple will make their first home in Springville. The Mothers Study Club met at the Sage Inn Feb. 19. There were fourteen members and two guests present. President Zelma Seal greeted the members and took up matters of business. Carrie Rawle read the club collect. A luncheon was served, after which Mrs. Seal introduced the program for the afternoon. Lorna C. Alder gave a program about women who have made significant contributions con-tributions to the good of the country and its people. She began with Queen Isabella of Spain, who, although she was not an American, helped Columbus in his discovery of America and included prominent women throughout U.S. history.
