Why is this month's electric bill higher? This i s the time of year that many people ask UP&L the above question often following it up with: "We haven't added any appliances or changed our 'life style'." True, there is an increase in the price of electricity this January-February of about 13 percent over last January-February January-February (1978) due primarily to a rate increase brought about by inflation. But that's not all. You don't have to add appliances or change your life style here are a few of the things that push up your bill this time of year: . . .Old Man Winter brings shorter days, longer nights . . .lights burn longer . . .TV sets stay on longer . . .furnace fans (both electric and gas furnaces have them) work harder and longer. And this winter is a cold one 25 percent colder than last year! . . .hot water heaters work longer because incoming water is colder 2:00 0 DAYS OF OUR LIVES O EDGE OF NIGHT 0 MOVIE 'Operation Pacific' (THUR.), 'White Feathers' (FRI.), 'Sidecar Racers' (MON.), 'The McMasters' (TUE.), 'Master Stroke' (WED.) When frigid weather hits, it hits the pocketbook hard, because when the temperature goes down, the use of electricity goes up. What can be done about it?
