Food waste study to be conducted Nebo School District will be one of four in Utah to participate in a study of methods of improving school meals for public school students. Utah State University Extension Ex-tension personnel are conducting the study with the help of a federal grant. A bill passed by Congress funded a pilot program in two states to see if Extension home economists could be used to provide in-service training for school food service managers, explained ex-plained Georgia Lauritzen, Utah State University Extension nutrition specialist. The objective is to help food service managers better utilize food and ( prepare more nutritious meals for students. Four schools from each of four districts in the state are participating in the study. They are Salt Lake, Alpine, Provo, and Nebo. Extension service personnel have collected initial data on plate waste and background information in-formation on participation. par-ticipation. Final data will be collected in April. In July a final report will be published with findings and recommendations, recom-mendations, Mrs. Lauritzen said. "We know that the training available to food service personnel and the quality of the food served in schools is better here than in many other states," she said. The U. S.
