The mayor therefore requested more clerical help which the council will consider later. The Council found itself in the dilemma of receiving a request for a building permit which for reasons of servicing fire fighting equipment to the resident, they would have denied, but which they approved lacking the written restriction in policy. The vote was divided in approving John Childs' request to build about 600 feet back into his property, which he pointed out is now uncommon for Mapleton residences. The opinion was expressed that present decisions need not be patterned on those of the past if those irreversible decisions were a mistake. City ordinance presently limits the minimum frontage allowable between a building structure and the road, yet it lacks a maximum distance, except in requiring that a fire hydrant be no frather from a residence than 600 feet. The city is obligated to fight fires whether or not a locked gate and narrow, bending road inhibits the process. Chief Bogardus is seeking a third full time police officer to be paid by approved ap-proved CETA funds. He also requested part-time help to fill in during absence of the full-time officers who will need sick leave and vacation time, and also for special assignments. A question-narie question-narie will be sent out along with the water bills this month, soliciting opinions and help in upgrading the police protection. Councilman Morris Warren received approval to request that the property designated as a proposed park adjoining ad-joining the proposed junior high school be owned jointly with the Nebo School District, and possibly with the LDS Stake which will be building across the street. The council was requested once more to take steps to approve plans providing proper drainage for the subdivision formerly owned by Burt Gividen, who is still prepared to fulfill his responsibility of providing curb and gutter as soon as the council decides on the specifications, he said. Applications for position of administrative ad-ministrative assistant are piling up, with no decision at this time.
