Show Open letter Apology made, facts straight From the superintendent's desk ' Please accept my fervent apologies for writing the open letter that appeared in your newspaper on June 19. I once believed that it was in the community interest to bring what I consider problems to the public attention. After reading Chief LeLand Bower's ' letter which appeared in the June 26 issue of your newspaper I can see that it would be better to "leave well enough alone." Besides, who can argue with a man in the possession of so many, "facts." . ' I do have one humble request to make, and it is that when Chief Bowers quotes ' me or anyone else in the future, he will do it accurately. He implies that I called the armed escort service a "waste of the taxpayers' money." I sincerely hope that Chief Bower's standards of police evidence and court testimony as well as the statistics he reports jn his letter, are higher than his standard of accuracy in quoting the language of a letter that appeared ap-peared in print. Feeling duly chastised, I repent of offering "Misin: formation" to the public (even though I still believe everything I said in my first letter). From now on I promise to remain a staunch member of the silent majority, keeping my views strictly to myself. At least my letter did some good; it gave Chief Bowers the opportunity to parade the accomplishments ac-complishments of the police department. Roy K.
