And it's fun to make that ice cream because there's pleasure in creating flavors from your own . imagination. Or, if you like vanilla, which most people do, there's a carrousel of sauces to tempt your taste; any day or every day, as you choose. There once was a time when you couldn't sell ice cream sodas on a Sunday. To get around this law, one enterprising operator simply omitted the soda water and left the ice cream with its fruit. And thus was born the" Sunday soda." Today you can enjoy sundaes, any day, Sundays included. in-cluded. For a real treat make your own ice cream from wholesome, nutritious ingredients. Serve plain or with a dazzling array of fruits andor sauces. FRENCH ICE CREAM 3 eggs, separated 1 cup sugar 4 cups light cream OR half and half 2 teaspoons vanilla Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add 12 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon-colored. lemon-colored. Gradually add remaining re-maining 12 cup sugar, beating beat-ing until sugar is dissolved. Fold yolks into whites; gradually grad-ually add cream. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, con-stantly, until thickened (about 12 minutes). Do not boil. Add vanilla. Chill thoroughly. thor-oughly. Freeze according to freezer directions. Approx. 5 cups. CANTALOUPE A LA MODE WITH BLUEBERRY SAUCE 8 cantaloupe rings 2 pints vanilla ice cream Blueberry Sauce For each serving, place cantaloupe can-taloupe on chilled dessert plate; top with scoop of ice cream. Serve with: BLUEBERRY SAUCE 2 cups blueberries 13 cup water 12 cup sugar 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 tablespoon lemon juice Combine blueberries, water, sugar and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Stir in lemon juice. Chill. 8 servings. PEACH A LA MODE WITH CARAMEL-BUTTER CARAMEL-BUTTER SAUCE 8 peaches, cut in half, chilled 2 pints maple nut ice cream Caramel-Butter Sauce For each serving, place 2 peach halves in dessert dish. Top with scoop of ice cream. Serve with: CARAMEL-BUTTER SAUCE 34 cup sugar ' Dash of salt 12 cup light corn syrup 14 cup butter 1 cup light cream OR half and half 12 teaspoon vanilla " . Combine sugar, salt, corn' syrup, butter and 12 cup light cream. Cook slowly, stirring frequently to 250 degrees F. on a candy thermometer ther-mometer or until a small amount dropped into cold water forms a hard ball. Gradually stir in remaining 12 cup light cream; cook to 216 degrees F. or until a small amount forms a thread when dropped from spoon. Remove from heat; add vanilla. va-nilla. Serve warm. 8 servings. Thorpe Reunion held June 27-28 The annual Thorpe reunion was held Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28 at Kelly's Groye. Ronald Thorpe's family was in charge with Calvin Thorpe as chairman. A large crowd of about 150 people were in attendance, many coming from out of town and out of state. Friday evening, after a pot luck supper, slides of pictures were shown of the birth place, Gelper Derbyshire England, of Ruth Taylor Thorpe and Levi Thorpe. Sylvia Carter was chosen Woman of the Year by Tri-Ute Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) at the Chapter's dinner meeting on Wednesday at the Elk's Lodge in Provo, conducted by President Marilyn Ellsworth. Annually, each ABWA chapter selects one of its members for this award. Selection is based on the achievements of the member in her chosen field, reflecting her educational background, and other areas of interest, including community and character building. Mrs. Phil Carter is employed at the American Oil Company in Provo where she holds the position of bookkeeper! She has been employed by American Oil Company for the past 12 years. Mrs. Carter is an enthusiastic member of ABWA and has served as Chapter President, Corresponding Secretary, tea chairman co-chairman for "Boss Night." She is the mother of two charming daughters and three grandchildren. When her children were small she served in numerous capacities in both church and school activities. Paul Leslie Diamond, son of Ron and Lynhette Diamond of Spanish Fork celebrated his first birthday July 1. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Diamond of Springville and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cloward of Spanish Fork. ft Tough to fit? Arthur Boyer family at home The Arthur C. Boyer's home has been brimming with visitors during the past week as family members came to visit and now have returned to their homes. Guests included a daughter, Pauline and her husband DuWayne Donithorne and their two sons, Dennis and Darrin of San Jose, California; a daughter Ruth Ann and her husband L. Ralph Randall and their four children Mary Lou, Laurie Ann, Roger, and Jay of Ogdea As a special treat on June 21st they all joined with other members of the Boyer' family, Bishop and Mrs. Larsen S: Boyer (Maurine Ivory) and children Jeaneen, Marianne, Lauren, Carolyn and Brian of Midvale and Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Bonney (Mary Naomi) and : children Philip, Patricia, Jennifer, David and Linda Marie of Midvale, and they met at the fifth west, fifth north Provo Park. Here joining them were members of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. LeVitre (Lola Strong) family, and their two sons Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. LeVitre (Elaine Larson) and children Micheal, Mischelle, and David of Ogden, and Mr. and Mrs. James LeVitre (Bonnie Barrett) and children J. Gam, Tamera, and Polly of Pleasant Grove. ' Class of 1955 plans reunion The Springville High School Class of 1955 will hold their 20 year reunion at the Art Museum on July 19, at 7:00 p.m. Reservations need to be made no later than July 11th, remitt to Arnold W. Grown, 1075 E. 100 So., Springville, Utah 84663. The cost for the evening will be $12.00 per couple, which includes dinner, dancing, and a good get-to-gether. All class members are urged to be in attendance for a very enjoyable evening with former friends and class mates. special occasion for Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Boyer and their four children and partners. They all attended the 6 o'clock session in the Salt Lake Temple. All were married in this beautiful Temple except for . their son Larsen and Maurine Ivory, who were married in the Manti Temple. This was a sacred and special evening for all to be in the temple together. It was a full and busy week but a very happy time for eight children, seventeen grandchildren grand-children and two grandparents!
