Show Jim Miner returns after spending past year in Perth, Australia Jim Miner Sara Christensen, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Louis R. Christensen, (Sherie Miller) of Driggs, Idaho, celebrated her very first birthday on January 10, 1975. She also has two sisters and one brother. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller of Springville and Mr. and Mrs. Don Christensen of Willard, Utah. Great-grandmother is Henrietta Harmer.' Samuel Johnson pointed out, a couple of centuries ago, that "the superiority of some men is merely local. They are great because their associates are little." Miner returned home Jan. 8 from Perth, Western Australia. He has been there the last year as a Rotary exchange student. He attended four different dif-ferent high schools, traveled to the huge wheat fields, working on the farms and learning how they run thousands of sheep, cattle and pigs. He was taken on a tour of the gold mines in the north of western Australia, flew to the Abrolis Islands, went skin diving and saw the beautiful fish and coral reefs. He spent five days on a government fishing boat and climbed and camped on the Pokwrys mountains. He fell in love with the country and loved all the wonderful people he met that were so good to him and treated him so special. James H. Mason, postal employee, retires after 35 years of service Alexander Dumas, in answer to the question, "How do you grow old so gracefully?" replied, "Madam, I give all my time to it." James H. Mason, local postal employee, retired on Dec. 31 after 35 years and eight months of federal service. He was. honored on Friday night by fellow employees at a banquet at Oak Crest Inn. Mr. Mason began his career with the U.S. Postal Service on Oct. 28, 1958. Prior to that time he had an active military career. Born in Salisbury, Md., on Dec. 22, 1919, Mr. Mason graduated from high school in Stockton, Md., in 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 2, 1938 and served continuously until Nov. 15, 1957. He served on 12 ships or stations and was serving on the USS Helm which was in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, ,1841. During World War II and Korean War he was awarded the Purple Heart, two unit citations, four good conduct medals and 13 campaign medals. He was transferred to inactive status in the Fleet reserve in November 1957 and was placed on the retired list on May 2, 1968. He married Marie Ford of .Provo in October, ' 1943 in Newport, R.I. They are parents of three children. Long active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he also enjoys fishing, hunting, gardening and golf.
