Brewster In a surprise announcement Wednesday night (Aug. 7), the Physical Plant Building at Brigham Young University was named the Sam F. Brewster Physical Plant Building. BYU President Dallin H. Oaks disclosed the new name at a banquet honoring Mr. Brewster on his retirement after 17 years of outstanding service as director of he Physical Plant Department. The building named in his honor houses the administrative offices, shops, motor pool, and stockrooms for maintenance of the big BYU campus. "Sam Brewster's 17 years of service to BYU must rank among the most distinguished and most significant in the history of the University," President Oaks states. "Our campus, which is widely renowned for its beauty and effectiveness, bears the mark of his genius." Mr. Brewster, an international authority in his field, directed the planning, construction, and mantenance of the spacious Provo campus during a period of intensive growth in which BYU became the largest church-related church-related univeristy in the nation. Serving 25,000 students, BYU maintains 380 buildings with 5.5 million square feet of floor space, the centeral campus with over 500 acres, in addition to a 639-acre agricultural studies farm, 40-acre animal science laboratory, 22-acre motion picture studio and grounds, and a Alpine Campus in Provo Canyon. He also has been involved with the planning and construction of Buildings for other educational institutions of the Church, such ax Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and the Brigham Young Univeristy-Hawaii Campus. He is former president of the National Association of Physical Plant Administrators of Universities and Colleges and served three terms as vice-presdient vice-presdient for professional standards. He came to BYU from Auburn University in Alabama, where he was director of buildings and grounds. As for Sleeping Beauty, you must come and meet Prince Charming, a bored King, an unfunny jester, a strange wizard, a not -so-fierce dragon and an ancient Sleeping Beauty. Repeat performances will be given Friday at 4:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. Writing contest announced by Commission The Utah American Revolution Bicentennial Commission announces a contest con-test for a children's play as one of its projects for the celebration of the nation's 200th birthday in 1976. A prize of $1,000 is offered for the winning play, which will be made available without royalty to all schools or other producing groups in the state during the 1975-76 school year. January 15, 1975 is the deadline for submission of scripts and the contest is open to all residents of the state or those currently attending school in the state.
