Show Page Four The Springville horn the 10 years ago Unused since December 1960, the old D&RGW railrod depot west of town on Second South Street is being torn down leaving a vacant spot where many people have gathered to meet or bid farewell to friends going or coming. Airman Second Class Gary P. Johnson of Springville has arrived at Itozuke, Japan for duty with a unit of the. Pacific Air Force. He is the son of Mrs. Vernal Johnson, 140 East Third Street, Springville, and is a graduate of Springville High School. Three' Springville City con-cilmen, con-cilmen, two re-elected and the other new on the job were officially of-ficially installed in office on New Year's Day, January 1. They are Frank Memory and M. D. Peay, re-elected and Floyd Stewart, elected. The oath of office was administered by Mayor Paul Haymond. A number of Springville and Mapleton men are serving as officer in the Timpanogos Conservation District, including Niel Whiting of Mapleton, board chairman. Also elected from Springville are LaMar Crandall and LaMar Boyer. Mr. and Mrs. Condie Crandall of Mapleton had many visitors during the holidays. Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Balen and family of Cedar City spent several days with them. Mr. Balen lived with Fern's parents in Duchesne for many years when he was a young boy. For the New Year holiday they are " expecting Mr. Ray Broadhead and his family of Duchesne. Mr. Broadhead is a brother of Mrs. Crandall's. A bride of early 1964 will be Miss Vicki Lynn Chesnut, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Chesnut of this city, who will be married January 24 to Max E. (Ted) Murray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max L. Murray, also of Springville. The ceremony is to take place in the Salt Lake Temple and the couple will be honored the same evening with a reception in the Third-Ninth Ward church. Alice R. Merrill of Arco, Idaho, who spent the holidays in Delta wth her sister, Shirley Owens and family, came to Springville with Shirley's daughter and visited with the J. A. Rothwells and at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Waters and other relatives. Amega Miss Club members and their husbands met in their annual Christmas party Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Weight. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Orval Harmer, Mrs. Robert White, Mrs. Elmo Court, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Weight, all of Springville: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Long, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Doyle, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard White, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Moore of Provo. Home Culture Club members were entertained at a delightful Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Gwen Baxter. Mrs. Lenard Harward was assisting hostess. Pretty Miss Janet Sue Ostler and Ron Alvey have chosen Friday, January 3, as the date of their marriage to take place in the Kolob Stake House and be followed by a reception the same evening. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ostler of this city and Mr. Alvey's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Felix, also of Springville. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crandall and little daughter from Hawthorne, Calif, and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Holt from Hayward, Calif, are here to spend the Christmas holidays with the Leo Crandalls and other relatives and friends. Jim and Karen Thorn and family were among holiday visitors to Springville, coming from Washington, D.C. They visited with Jim's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thorn in Orem and with Karen's folks in Spanish Fork. A fireside for MIA-Maids and Explorers of Springville Stake will be held Friday, January 3, at 7:30 in the Tenth Ward Relief Society Room. Weldon Thacken will be the speaker. Leaders Margaret Pehrson and Fukan Sorensen are in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Roberts and three sons, Brian, Lamar and Mark of Chino, California, spent the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Everett of Mapleton. Mr. and Mrs. John Finlayson (Thera Lou Jensen) and family, Debbie, Mike, Cindy and Becky of Grand Junction, Colo, spent several days with her parents, Herald January 3, 1974 Herald Files Mr. and Mrs. Ruel Jensen of Mapleton. Also visiting the Jensens during the holidays was Mr. and Mrs. Don Clark (Ruth Ann) and children, Randy, Jeff, Jim and Jerilyn, of Liberty, Utah. Joseph G. Richins, Jr., USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Grant Richins of 11 C Brookside is serving aboard the attack aircraft air-craft carrier, USS Bon Momme Richard, currently operating in Hawaiian waters. Two local fellows, Lloyd Nelson, son of Mr. Theora Nelson of Springville, and Leonard Earl Banks of Mapleton were reported to have joined the army recently. A Springville musician, Robert Dalton, is being featured in the BYU Chamber Music concert next Wednesday, January 8 at 8:15 p.m. in the Joseph Smith auditorium. 20 years ago- The Mapleton MIA will have their annual Gold and Green Ball next Tuesday, January 12, at 7:30 p.m., in the Memorial Hall. An outstanding floor show will be presented under the direction of Kathleen and Dewey Nelson, dance directors. Springville J C members assisted the National Guard unit in the collection of clothing for the Pusan fire victims in which about 75 pounds of clothing were boxed and loaded for shipment. Helping load the boxes were Kent Palfreyman, Bill Averett,, Robert Bringhurst and Capt. Allen Stewart of the Guard. Two new officers were elected to serve the coming year as officers of the local Community-Presbyterian Community-Presbyterian Church at the annual congregational meeting Tuesday evening. Ed Breunsinger and Harold Hulce were named new trustees to serve with Mrs. Sibbard Reid, Howard Willis and Harris Loughnan. Jimmie Smart, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Smart was winner of a super-deluxe Schwinn bicycle in a Safeway bread contest. Plans for construction of three new telephone buildings in Springville, Provo and Orem were announced by John W. Snell, Provo District Manager, for the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company. These will enable dial telephones for the area soon. A gala New Year's Eve party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wheeler for a group of friends. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Black of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Packard of Salt Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Sumsion, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thorn, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Norton, Mr. and Mrs. Jerrol Boyer and the host and hostess. Mr. and Mrs. William Weight spent part of the holidays with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Newell Neal (Madeline Weight) of American Fork. Mr. and Mrs. George Pehrson and boys spent part of the holidays in Magna with Mr. Pehison's mother, Mrs. N. J. Pehrson. The Brithday Club of Mapleton met in the home of Mrs. Priscella LeRoy for a chili supper. Men and their wives present were Reid Hales, W. H. Whiting, Maston Wentz, Ralph Wyman and Chris Sorensen. Helen Reynolds also was present. Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Taylor, married early in December in the Salt Lake Temple, are now in widely scattered areas. Delbert sailed last week to join his twin brother in Korea, while his wife the former Janet Llewellyn daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fay Llewellyn of Mapleton, returned home from California by plane to await her husband's return. Delbert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley S. Taylor of Provo. The newly-sustained bishopric of the Second Ward and their wives were guests of honor at a party Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Smith. Present were Bishop and Mrs. Ruel Crandall, Mr. and Mrs. R. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hanks. Dr. and Mrs. Rex Whiting and family of Heber were visitors at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Whitney on New Years Day.
