He recently completed his basic training at Fort Ord, California. He is the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Chamberless and a grandson of Harvey Blackett of Springville. Awarded a prize for the best costumes at Huck Finn Day this week were Dennis Holt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Holt, and Judy Newbury, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Newbury. Other winners during the day were Eldon Reese Jr. and Randell Whitney, tie award for largest fish, 14 inches in length; and Phil Smith, best fisherman; total catch of eleven fish. A total of 64 citations were handled by .the city court during the month of July., Of these, 30 were for speeding, and the rest for traffic offenses. Alma Fullmer of Springville was named vice-president of the Utah State Firemen's Association this week. He was elected at the association's annual convention, held this year at Richfield. Members of the Springville High School Thespian Club and their partners spent an enjoyable en-joyable evening recently at Cherry Park. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Eli Tippetts, LaRee Bigelow and Billie Bearnson, Janice Weight and Arnold Brown, LaRae Phillips and Mickey Holman, Geniel Felix and Elaine Erickson, Don Watts and Mark Hoover, Phillips Harrison and Yvonne Bigelow, Carolyn Averett and Kay Lar-sen, Lar-sen, Yvonne Hurst and Mont Morris, and Chairman Long and Tad Bingham. The garden of the Harold Whiting residence was the scene this week of a party honoring the retiring MIA board members. Guests of honor included Mrs. Vesta Boyer, Mrs. Evelyn Boyer, Mrs. Dolly Smith, Miss Norma Weight, Mrs. Ruby Twitchell, Mrs. Lera Cook, Mrs. Barbara Murray, Mrs. Merrill Young, Mrs. Genevieve Winger, Mrs. Reva Lynn, Mrs. Gertrude Clements, and Mrs. Ruth Nielsen. ed 10 years ago There were no permits requested for new homes during the month of July this year in Springville. This is thought to be the first time that such a thing has happened in a summer month. Other building permits sold by the city were $6000 for remodeling or additions, and $2850 in permits for garages of carports. President Leo A. Crandall reported that Elman Jackson of Provo -was the apparent low bidder on construction of an addition to the Springville Museum of Art this week. His figures were $84,994 base bid Unit A and $24,980 base bid on UnitB. Nebo School District's 372 teachers received contracts this week bea ring pay increases. The . salary schedule for the coming school year will range from $4300 for beginning teachers to $7224 for teachers having twelve or more years of experience. The old scale was $38 for beginners and $6375 maximum after twelve years of experience. Awarded a $300 scholarship to Utah State University at Logan this week was Clair Hicks, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hicks. He received the scholarship in recognition of his record in FFA work, and will be able to use it in the area of dairy manufacturing. Mrs. LeGrande Boyer of this city has produced a long playing record titled "Memories of Music". It features the best selections sung by the Acapella Choir at the Springville High School during the years' Mr. Glenn Montague was the choir instructor. It was processed at a recording company on the West Coast Prices listed in supermarket advertisement in the August 8, 1963 issue of the Herald include the following: tomatoes, two pounds 45 cents; boneless pot roast, 39 cents per pound; fryers, 27 cents a pound; flour, ten pounds for 75 cents; sugar, 10 pounds for $1.25; and White Star Tuna, four cans for $1.00. Awarded his silver wings in recognition of completion of training in the U.S. Air Force this week was second lieutenant James H. Bogart He is the husband of the former Uvada Brown, of Springville. Seaman Recruit' Joseph G. Richins Jr., USU, has completed his basic training at the San Diego, California Naval Training Center. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G.
