We feel that this is our mascot. It's been a tradition for years. We are known to other school as the Springville, Red Devils. Our school color's go around this mascot and everything we've got in the past in the way of markies and bleachers follow this color scheme and mascot. We're not trying to just put up a commotion com-motion about trying to keep our mascot in, but we feel there's really no reason for changing it. We understand that if there was a evil, sacreligious concept to this, or that there was real reference to the devil that there may be a need for concern and change. We also feel that once you start to change something that has tradition as long as the Springville Red Devils , how are we to remember and relate to a different name. Once we start changing we may not please someone with the new one and then we start to have mixed feelings over tradition and change. This writer has answer to I wish to express my appreciation ap-preciation to Mrs. Grant Weight, Mr. LaRell Johnson, and other concerned citizens of our community for making me aware of a problem that has plagued me and other graduates of the Springville High School for who knows how many years. Until I read the letters written to you by Mr. Weight and Mr. Johnson, I never realized that because we were known as "Red Devils," we tended to act like devils and at least nominally lend support to the programs of that old deceiver. Having received this important im-portant insight from these citizens, I wholeheartedly lend my support to Mr. Johnson's suggestion that henceforth we should be known as the "Springville High School Artists." Ar-tists." That way our youth would become more like artists. Yes, I would be the first in line to buy me easel, brushes, paints, and colorful jacket reading "I Am an Artist Supporter." There could be no better way to establish good public relations with the artists of this world, as opposed to the devils that we now seem to be courting. Besided, I have always had a secret longing to be an,; artist. Just imagine the frantic crowds shouting, "Go, J Artists, Go!" Who knows what da : Vinci or , Rembrandnt could have done with such support We would never have to hang our heads in shame, because no matter how far we lost a game we could always have confidence that we had done a picturesque job. After more serious thought, however, I feel that Mr. Johnson's John-son's idea could be improved upon. If the name makes the man, then why not go all the way? I propose that we should be known as the "Springvill High School Angels." (We should all envy the California Angles.) Thus, all of the disadvantages of being known as "Devils" could be turned to our advantage. We may have trouble finding a mascot, but a white sheet, gilded Aug. 18 14 beautiful new homes Home product displays Parade 73 is open from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. weekdays and from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. weekends and Labor Day.
