Show Pase Twelve The Springville Herald August 16, 1973 t r A- U , ' -or Golf professional Sonny Braun is shown here teeing off on the par five number nine hole as he tries out the 'new nine' at Hobble Creek Golf Course. From the blue tees where he is shooting, the hole measures 510 yards. From the white tees it is 485 yards, and the red tees make the distance 435 yards. It's the longest par five hole on the course. The opening of the new nine holes has been set for the 25th of August. This will be a welcome addition to our present excellent facilities. The new nine will become the front nine and the old course the back nine. There is quite a contrast between the two nines because of the big difference of yardage. The new nine is much longer, but has more room to work with on the fairways. "Versatile" would probably best describe the new holes. The big teeing area makes it so we can make the course play very easy from the front tees or else go to the back tees for the extreme ex-treme test. Golfers of all calibre should really enjoy the course from this aspect. Other improvements made on the new nine over old include: automatic sprinkling system, sand tees and greens, merion blue grass on the fairways, better drainage system, special tees for the ladies and wider fairways. The new course should prove to play faster than the old one because of the longer starting holes to spread the golfers out faster and more room to spray the ball and still remain on the fairway. With the rolling terrain, creek lakes, trees, and over-all beauty of the canyon the course should fast become one of the most popular in Utah. The new course along with the old one was designed by William Bell, Golf Course Architect from Pasadena, California who is world renowned for his work. Here's a brief description of all the holes on the new nine. No. 1 Blue Tees 395 yards White Tees 365 yards Red Tees 315 yards A good par four that dog-legs to the left, you tee off from an elevated tee and it is out-of-bounds down the left side of fairway with a large lake to the right of the green to catch an errant shot A small bunker guards that back of the green which will catch a shot hit too strongly. This is a very good starting hole. No. 2 Blue Tees 385 yards White Tees 360 yards Red Tees 315 yards Another par four that demands a very exacting tee shot in order to keep the golf ball between the trees to right and left of the tee. Your tee shot has to carry over the creek to an island which opens up to a fairly wide fairway, but you have to be very careful not to let your tee shot drift too far to the right or else you will be stymied on your second shot by a big box elder tree. The second shot must be hit over the creek again with a sand trap to the left of the green. Further description of Tees 3 through 9 will be included in next . week's Herald n IS 5 S3 ii i THIS HUHORT 1U tic rHlvil:-H JO DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY OFFICE OF REVENUE SHARING 1 900 PENNSYLVANIA AVE N.W.
