Man-made pond claims life of five-year-old A man-made pond, averaging about five feet in depth, claimed the life of a five year old boy in Hobble Creek Canyon last week. Dead was James Jonathan Neal White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal White, 495 Parkview, Summit Park. The child drowned in a pond in the Granger Canyon area, according ac-cording to reports. He was playing in the area while his father aided in clearing private land there. With him was his ten-year-old sister, Kelly, who reported his disappearance, at which an immediate search of the area was started. The child's shoes and socks were found on the banks of the pond. Warren and Mr. White went into the pond and searched for the boy. The child's body was found by Warren, who administered artificial resuscitation. The group headed down the canyon with Mr. White driving and Warren continuing artificial resuscitation. When they reached Hobble Creek Golf Course, David Walker, 13-year-old brother of Warren, got out of the car and went into the golf course pro shop to telephone ahead to Springville Police Department. Police received the call at 2:05 p.m. from Ray Klauck, assistant golf pro. A police car was dispatched to escort the White auto down the canyon, but there was a mixup in the car color and they didn't connect. The White vehicle arrived at Springville Police Department at 2 : 14 p. m. where a resuscitator failed to revive the youngster. Mr. White, Kelly and the child's body were taken to Utah Valley Hospital by ambulance. Springville Police followed with Warren Walker, who was reported in shock. Mr. White had dug a pond for the Walker family, whose lands adjoin the White property, on Wednesday in exchange for a day's work from Warrea Both men were operating tractors clearing land at the time of the tragedy. David was watching the two men. He succumbed Monday, August 6th, in a Salt Lake City hospital. A native of Spanish Fork, he was born there Jan. 31, 1901, the son of John A. and Hannah Atwood Beck. He married Vernicia Mecham on August 20, 1925 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. XsiuuKt, ImI EsUf HAVE YOU r.iET i l Tills Lv asaa am am Weldon HiH f I A M V '38 North Main !
