While still warm, the cooked potatoes are diced and tossed in an oil and vinegar dressing. For a buffet, serve Swiss-Style Potato Salad on a lettuce-lined platter garnished with salami slices and cherry tomatoes. Washington Russets are an all-purpose potato that stay moist and flavorful whether baked, boiled or fried. They are especially adaptable for salad because they cook evenly and retain their shape. SWISS-STYLE POTATO SALAD 4 cups cooked, diced Washington Wash-ington Russet Potatoes Y2 cup salad oil y3 cup vinegar 2 teaspoons salt J4 teaspoon pepper 1 clove garlic, minced l'a cups finely diced Swiss cheese 1 cup sliced celery '3 cup chopped green onion Crisp lettuce Salami slices Cherry tomatoes Parsley, for garnish Cook potatoes whole. While still warm, dice and toss with mixture of oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and garlic. Cool. Fold in cheese, celery and onion. Chill. Serve in lettuce-lined bowl or platter. Encircle with salami slices and cherry tomatoes. Garnish with parsley. Makes 6 servings. Birthday fete to honor SF man John F. Warner, Jr. will be honored at an open-house for his 80th birthday on Sunday, May 6, 1973 between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. at the residence of a son, Ray D. Warner, 865 E. 300 S., Spanish Fork. All friends and neighbors are invited to celebrate this occasion with him. He requests no gifts. His nine sons and daughters will host this event. Mr. Warner was born in Spanish Fork May 7, 1893. He graduated ' from the Spanish Fork Higl School in 1914. After six weeks of summer school at the University of Utah, he began to teach at Spring Lake. He finished his college work by correspondence courses, extension ex-tension courses, and summer schools over a 20-year period. During that time he taught at Tucker, Mapleton, Palmyra, Salem, Genola, Thistle, and Spanish Fork. He was Principal of the Spanish Fork Central School for 13 years from 1928 to 1941. The last 12 years he taught at the Spanish Fork Jr. High School. After his retirement he returned ,to teaching at the Elementary School in Roosevelt, Utah for 1 year, and also taught 1 year in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Lincoln Elementary school. This made a total of 37 years of teaching school. He has held several important positions in the Teachers Association, among them President of the Nebo Teachers Association, President of the Nebo Principals' Study Club, and a member of the Central Committee, the Welfare Committee, Com-mittee, and Welfare Association Mr. Warner has always been interested in church work in the various communities, and has held many responsible positions. He has served as Bishop of the Spanish Fork Fifth Ward, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, President of the YMMIA, and a teacher in Sunday School, MIA, Religion Class, Genealogical Society. He has been a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and a Troop Committeeman in the Boy Scouts of America. r diL He has always been interested in music, and has conducted the music in various organizations of the church and taught music in the elementary schools. He has also been interested in art, and while Principal at the Central School, started an Art Exhibit, emphasizing particularly par-ticularly the copies of old masterpieces. Subsequent principals have carried this project on to include original paintings by local artists. Mr. Warner spent four years as Justice of the Peace for Spanish Fork precinct, and two years as City Councilman in Spanish Fork City. He married Ardell Perry of Mapleton, September 2nd, 1914. She died February 7th, 1961. They reared nine sons and daughters: Bishop Perry Warner, Soda Springs, Idaho; Mrs. Max (Leora) Francom, Mrs. Lynn (Delia) Elmer, and Ray D. Warner of Spanish Fork; Ronald L. Warner, Springville; Mrs. Clyde (Betty Jean) Peters, Bountiful; Mrs. Fred (Elda Ruth) Petrucci, Salt Lake City; Mrs. William G. (Orlean) Nevers, Woodland Hills, California; and Leo Warner, Van Nuys, California. He has 34 grandchildren, and 22 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. During World War II, three sons and three sons-iti-law were in the armed forces at the same time - three in the Navy and three in the Army. Four of them were combat veterans. His son Ronald completed a four-year term in the Navy during the Korean conflict.
