Open letter Letter suggests way to solve road problems Editor's note: A Springville citizen comments on the proposed change to Provo Canyon road with the following letter to the editor: (letters to the editor do not necessarily reflect the opinion of this newspaper but is entirely that of the writer). In regards to the present controversy over the proposed improvements to the present highway through Provo Canyon. Please allow me to point out that there are three shorter routes, by way of Hobble Creek Canyon, by which a four lane highway may be built directly to Highway Forty with a number of advantages, as follows: (1) The shorter distance. (2) Less damage to the ecology. (3) Lower cost for right of way. (4) Lower expected maintainence costs. (5) There is no danger of the road being blocked by snow slides. (6) This would give the highway system an alternate route in case of need. (7) A road through this area can probably be built for about the same amount that the proposed relocation in Provo Canyon will cost to the end of the first stage. The routes are: , (1) Follow the present road up the left fork to the North Strawberry Peak, thence easterly around the peak to either Daniels Summit or down toward the Hub Ranger Station or else the Briant's Fork Junction Junc-tion area, of Highway Forty. (2) Follow the Left Fork of Hobble Creek Canyon to the mouth of Granges Canyon, thence up Granges Or Granger as it is often pronounced) around the head of Dry Canyon and Table Mountain South of the Mud Holes to the North Strawberry Peak and on as in (1). (3) Follow the main road up the Right Fork of Hobble Creek Canyon to the mouth of Dry Canyon thence up either the Main Fork of Dry or the right fork of Dry Canyon and around Table Mountain to the North Strawberry Area and on as in (1) and (2).
