NEW YORK (NEA) Bright idea in petticoat design which should win rousing feminine "whees" of approval is the flexible tuck by which hemline length can be adjusted. The tuck which allows for easy hoisting or lengthening of a petticoat by means of ribbon lacings or button-and-loops is the inventive trick of Thea Tewi. Long famed for innovations innova-tions which wed the functional with the glamorous in lingerie, ling-erie, Tewi believes that the petticoat which adjusts its length to the varying hemline of. dresses is badly needed in today's wardrobes. Her designs showing the tucks that oblige in their two phases of operation are pictured in new 32-inch length petti- coats which are available in a wide choice of costume colors. At left is a crepe petticoat richly edged with ecru lace which, as shown, has its button-up length let out to a full 34 inches. As shown in the close-up, top center, excess length folds into a tuck when a row of tiny pearl buttons encircling the hemline hem-line meet matching loops. The scalloped petticat, right, shows length let out from a tucking device which makes use of velvet ribbon lacings and . embroidered eyelets. The close-up, lower center, shows the lacing procedure which ties up with criss-crossed ribbons a neatly folded two-inch tuck. EPSIE KINARD, NEA Fashion Editor.
