She will become the bride of Leon A. Halgren, son of Mr.! and Mrs. Joseph Halgren of Salt Lake City, in rites to be solemnized in the LDS temple in Salt Lake. Miss Sherry has attended the Brigham Young university univer-sity for three years, where she was affiliated with Nautilus of N. L. U. Downs Janet Strin&ham Tells Of Wedding Intent Mr. and Mrs. L. Lyal Stringham Walla Walla, Wash., announce the engagement of their daughter, daugh-ter, Janet, to Russell M. Billings, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Billings of Provo. Miss Stringham has set her wedding date for Sept. S, with the rites to be solemnized at 5:00 p'. m. The nuptials will take place in Pasco. Wash., which was for many years the home of the bride's family. Following the ceremony a reception honoring the young couple will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Stringham of Pasco. The bride-to-be is a graduate of the Brigham Young university and was affiliated with the O. S. Trovata social unit. Mr. Billings is a pre-medical pre-medical student at BYU and is a member of the Bricker fraternity. They will be at home in Provo this fall, when Mr. Billings will resume his studies. Carter, whrj became -the bride of Howard T. Downs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Clar-ence H. Downs of Orem in an impressive double-ring ceremony cere-mony performed July 21 in the Manti LDS temple. Rites were performed by President Lewis R. Anderson. Ander-son. Accompanying " the young couple in the temple was Mrs. Down. A reception honored the newlyweds at the First Ward ehapel in Provo. Guests were received in the rotunda, where candelabrum and floral bouquets made a background for the bride's lovely gown of heavy white satin with. its flowing train. A seed pearl tiara held her full-length veil, and she carried a bouquet of white and pink gladioli. Attending the bride as matron Of honor was Mrs. John W. Downs, a sister-in-law. Bridesmaids Brides-maids included Miss Berniece Porter, Maribeth Wright and Christine Wilden, who wore gowns of lovely pastel shades. Petite Marcia and Karen Startup Start-up performed duties of flower maidens. Mrs. Downs chose a gown of black crepe adorned with a corsage of gardenias. Robert Downs traveled from Kansas City, Mo... to serve as best man for his brother. For the carefully planned program, pro-gram, Ray Ekihs, uncle of the groom acted as master of ceremonies. cere-monies. The couple are planning a Southern California honeymoon, after which they will make, their home in Ogden, Utah' Mr. Downs served in the navy for four years and is now employed at Hill Field. Mr. and Mrs. Waldon Hurst and family attended the birthday Beverly Jameson to Recite Wedding Vows August 18 Beverly Jameson, Provo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley H. Jameson of Cowley, Wyo., has chosen August 18 for the date of her wedding to Mark D. Robertson, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryant B. Robertsftn of Lovell, Wyo. Miss Jameson has attended Brigham Young university for three years, where she is a member of Omega Nu, journalism fraternity. She has been employed in Provo. During the war the prospective bridegroom was a lieu tenant in the marine air corps, and he has attended the Univer sity of Wyoming and Brigham Young university. Neilson is home for his first ten day leave since joining the navy in May. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Neilson, he is now seaman first class. He entered the navy following his graduation from the North Sanpete high school last spring. Recently he completed his boot camp training at the San Diego naval base. Miss Ella Wicklund of the Wasatch Wa-satch Academy faculty, returned to Mt. Pleasant Friday night after a vacation of several weeks to Canada. With friends from Salt Lake City she drove to Jasper National Park, Banff, and Lake Louise. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Hall of Norman, Oklahoma, arrived in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday for a visit of a week or ten days with their daughter, Mrs. Roger Hansen. Han-sen. Dr. I. D. Rasmussen of the U. S. forest service at Ogden was a guest last Saturday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Dan-iel Rasmussen. Dr. Rasmussen and a group of forestry officials from'Washington. D. C, were re turning from a routine check-up trip through southern and eastern Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Gunderson and children, David and Gayle of Salt Lake spent last weekend with Mrs. Gunderson's mother, Mrs. A. C. Madsen. David remained to spend two weeks at the home of his grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Evan Anderson and son, Johnnie, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lint and son Bobby i of Los Angeles have been guests the past week of Mr. and Mrs. John Stansf ield, vacationing at the Stansfield cabin in the BeavV dam home area. Mr. Anderson also attended a convention of Mu tual Life Insurance company agents in Salt Lake City. The group played "500" with prizes going to Mrs. Rose Sullivan, Mrs. Trellis Wil-kensen Wil-kensen and Mrs. Alice Brook, ail of Payson Also present were two ladiea from Provo, Mrs. Thelma Bailey and Mrs. Ruby Garrity. Miss Harriet Whiting has had as her guest for the past two weeka Miss Janet Greenwood from Long .Island, New York. The first week of her visit the girls with Miss Barbara Hay-mond Hay-mond vacationed at Bryce canyon can-yon where their fathers (Whiting (Whit-ing and Haymond Construction Co.) are working on an airport. On one afternoon last week a group of the girls were guests of Mrs. Cleo Heavener and her famous doll, Rosabelle. After the girls had seeen the doll queen's royal wardrobe, her collection of lucky stones and music boxes, they took a number of pictures. The group comprised: Miss Greenwood, Miss Whiting and Miss Haymond, Miss Sydna Whiting, Miss June Thorn and Misses Alice and Elaine Erickson. Bert Cherrlngton played host to 25 boys and girls who have been picking cherries at the Cherrington orchards. When the last of the fruit was taken care of. Mr. Cherrington took the group to Saratoga for an outing. After a swim and a lunch, the group enjoyed a watermelon bust, and then were taken to see the "fights" being held that night in Provo Mr. and Mrs. Willard Ostlund After an extended honeymoon to be spent in Yellowstone Na tional park. Glacier National park and Lake Louise in Canada, the couple will return to Provo where they will make their home. The bride-elect is being ex tensively entertained at showers and other social functions. Her mother, is honoring her at a trousseau tea to be held at her home August 15. Also honoring Miss Sherry was a dinner party held at Keeleys in Provo, where the table was dec orated with beautiful flowers and the evening was spent with music and games. Lewis and the guest of honor. have returned from a week's va cation trip through Colorado. visiting places of inteerst at Grand Junction, Colorado springs, (where they especially enjoyed the trip up Pike's Peak) Denver and Craig, Colorado . - Mrs. Ellen Anderson, accompanied accom-panied by her sons, Floyd and Don, recently enjoyed a visit in California with her daughter, Elaine Anderson, who is employed em-ployed as a receptionist lor a Los Angeles firm. They also visited in Long Beach with Mrs. Anderson's brother. Glendon and children, Wayne and Karen, 'Whitmore, and family.
