Parley Jft WASHINGTON, April 7 (U.R3 Resident Booseveit nu designated desig-nated Secrtetary of State Edward XL Stettinlus, - Jr., at temporary president of the United Nations security conference, which begins April' 25 in San Francisco. : White House Press Secretary Jonathan Daniels explained that it was customary for the host nation na-tion at an International parley to make its delegation chief temporary tempor-ary president. A permanent conference con-ference president will be elected at the start -of the security meeting. The president also named Alger iiiss, director or tne state department's depart-ment's office of special political affairs, to be permanent secretary general of the conference. Daniels said this appointment also followed precedent Hiss will head the international secretariat, whose personnel will be selected by him between -now end the opening date of the parley. par-ley. The secretariat comprises interpreters, in-terpreters, translators, secretaries, stenographers and other technicians technic-ians who work for the delegates and advisers to a conference. The size of the San Francisco secretariat has not been determined, deter-mined, but officials estimated that 300 persons would be needed. For ' the international aviation conference confer-ence at Chicago last fall, the United States provided a secretariat secre-tariat of 233 persons. Blood Donor Program Set Up It was announced today by Dr. L. G. Bradbury of the Provo .Junior chamber of commerce, that a cooperative blood donor program is going forward between be-tween the Utah Valley hospital, under the direction of Superintendent Superin-tendent J. H. Zengef, and the Provo Jaycees. According to Dr. Bradbury, upon up-on completion of the program the Utah Valley hospital will have on "record approximately one hundred hun-dred . names of Individuals, and their blood types, which will be used in the event of an emergency or by individuals who might have difficulty in locating direct blood donors. The official announcement was expected shortly. Ida., April 7 GJJO A former Portland ship yard worker suspected of tne first-degree murder of a woman in 1943, was held today in the Power county Jail here, awaiting a hearing before Federal Judge Chase A. Clark before being returned re-turned to Oregon. An order transferring him to Portland must be signed by Clark. FBI agents arrested the man, Harry Edward Lewis, near Soda Springs, Wednesday, after his photograph was recognized by an Idaho Falls policeman. Multonomah county district attorney at-torney T. B. Landley said a Fort- land first degree murder charge will be filed against Lewis. The bullet-riddled body of Mrs. Dee Gillen was found in Lewis' attic apartment in August, 1943.
