Announcement was made by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Basil Walker, Wal-ker, at a clever party given Wednesday evening at their home for her close friends. The bride, now employed at the Walgreen Drug company, has attended the U. A. C. at Logan for three years, where she was majoring in home economics. The groom 13 al.-so a student at the U. A. C. and will continue ins studies there this winter. Honoring the bride, several parties par-ties are being planned. A reception recep-tion is being given by her parents September 23, in the Second ward chapel. Bride-To-Be Complimented A delightful bridal shower was given Friday evening' by Miss Lydia Allied and Miss Donna Van Wagenen, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geoige C. Van Wagenen, in honor of Miss Mary Crosby, who is soon to wed Frank Douglas Doug-las Stalker of Mountain View, Alberta, Canada. Smith, son of Mrs. Mary M. Smith of Ogden, is to take place Sept. 24, in the L. D. S. chapel in Houston, Texas. Following their marriage, the young couple will spend a week at Galveston, Texas, and Lake Charles, Louisiana, and they will make their home in Mansfield, La., where Mr. Smith is employed by the U. S. Foil conservation service. ,' The bride-elect is a graduate of the B. Y. U. and was a member of the En Anon social unit. Mr. Smith was graduated from Weber college and the B. Y. U., where he was affiliated with the Val Hyrics. Several showers have been tendered Miss Dixon, Mrs. Howard B. Dixon entertaining en-tertaining 12 close school friends at her home last week, and Mrs. Arthur N. Taylor and Miss Ruth Taylor being hostesses to 40 relatives at their home. Marjorie Clark, Mary Snell, Beth Miner, Dorothy Miller and Anita Anderberg Watson, the latter also having left Saturday Satur-day to attend the same school. A largely attended reception in the Manavu ward hall Thursday evening, honored honor-ed the newlyweds, who will make their home at 659 North Third East street, this city. Sisters Given Birthday Fete The birthday anniversaries of Mauree LaVieve and Karen Lee Earl were celebrated at a gay party held the afternoon of Friday, Fri-day, the thirteenth, at the Earl home. Both were eight years old, and Friday was Mauree LaVieve's anniversary, an-niversary, while Karen Lee was eight in June. The rumpus room downstairs was the scene of the party, attended at-tended by 50 young friends. The B. Y. U. visual education department depart-ment showed three films which greatly pleased the youngsters. They were "How a Child Can Be Safe," "Our South American Neighbors," and "Life of the Coney." Five large birthday cakes, all prettily trimmed with lighted candles, can-dles, were served along with icecream. ice-cream. Many fine gifts were received re-ceived by the girls. . Birthday Party For Daughter Mrs. Lamar Scolt entertained Friday evening at the family home, to honor her daughter, Kathryn, on her twelfth birthday anniversary. More than 50 guests attended and beautiful gifts were showered on the young bride-elect. Miss Irma Acord gave two readings and games were played. A delicious de-licious luncheon was served. The rooms were bright with garden flowers. Class Boasts Two Friday 13th Girls CCC enrollees, directed by the various forest rangers, will start thi3 week to plant grass over-some over-some SOU acres on the Uinta national na-tional forest to improve grazing and watershed conditions, reports, re-ports, A. J. Wagstaff, assietant forest supervisor. Planting will take place on ranges that do not tend to im-piove im-piove under regular range management, man-agement, including certain areas on Hobble Creek, Diamond Fork, Daniels' canyon, Soapstone, antl on the Nebo and Duchesne divisions, di-visions, Mr. Wagstaff states. On the lower elevations, bulbous Blue grass and crested wheat will be planted, while smooth brorae, mountain brome and slender slen-der wheat will be sown in the higher elevations. Along stream courses the workers will plant sweet clover. '3 Artists' Section Starts Season Mrs. Bessie. Gout ley, chairman, presided at the opening meeting of the season, of the Women's Council artists' section, held Friday Fri-day afternoon at the Women's clubhouse. The program on "Oil Tainting and WateY Colors," was presented present-ed by Mrs. Gourley, and the women wo-men painted.
