Golfers Golf-ers whose badly-aimed mashies have dug chunks of turf from Pasadena municipal jrolf course, might have struck gold right on the fairway if they had kept on digging. Thomas Karns, 50-year-old prospector, pros-pector, set his "doodle-bug" ore locator at work and it indicated there is gold just a few yards from the ninth green. Karns obtained permission to dig two test holes just off the fairways. How the U. S. Army can feed its men, even though they be far from sources of supply, is shown in these pictures, taken during maneuvers' of the first cavalry division platoon near Fort Bliss, Tex A big bombing plane is sent aloft loaded with provisions. Locating the platoon on the river, the fivers (1) release a parachute carrying food supplies. Drifting slowly earthward, (2) the parachute can ios iti burden to the cavalrymen. They remove the bundle (3) from the "chute, find (4) that even eggs arc not bioken in the drop. (I'D -The pretty nurses of the nation are "up -n the air'- and its going go-ing to be hard to get them down. Dr. Harold V. Kuhn, of St. Luke's hospital contended before the thousands of girls attending the biennial nursing convention. Dr. Kuhn said that the transcontinental transcontinen-tal a.v lines were taking all of the "glamour girl nurses" for hostesses. One .superintendent of nurses protested that patients didn't ask for pretty girls any more. She said only tw-o patients in three years had asked for good-looking girls.
