Reports on the progress were presented at the last meeting of the committee, the personnel of which is as follows: Chairman, Mrs. Lavina Fugal. Character Study Will Play Part In Summer School Character education designed tr fill an urgent need of the times will be stressed at the Brigham Young university summer quarter. Dr. Wesley P. Lloyd, who took his Ph. D. in character and general education this month at the Uni versity of ' Chicago, has been en gaged as a visiting instructor. Specific methods and techniques of forming character will constitute consti-tute one of the courses he will teach in the first term, from June 14 to July 23. He will also teach the sociology of religion. Character education will also be emphasized In the lecture series according to Dean A. C. Lambert. He announces that Dr. Henry Neu mann of the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture will return this summer to deliver another of his inspirational addresses on ethics. Other speakers will deal with vital ohases of modern ethical and re ligious problems. Dr. Lloyd graduated from Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university in 1927 wtih a major in history. He ob tained his M. A. here in 1933 in sociology. Provo Giris In Bashful Mood? Are there no beautiful girls in Provo, are are they too modest to enter a contest that may mean a trip In June? Few, if any, girls have this far expressed their intentions to enter en-ter this contest to select "Miss Western America" to the Golden Gate International exposition In Paris. June 11, to June 23, said Clayton Jenkins, in charge of the contest here. Miss Utah, who must be between be-tween 18 and 25. unmarried, a state resident, and a high school graduate, will fly to San Francisco to compete in the finals, April 29 On the trip to France 4'Miss Western America" will go to Panama Pana-ma and the West Indies', and return re-turn by way of New York. All expenses will be paid for her and her chaperone. Girls wishing to enter, should send a full length photograph and a portrait picture, accompanied by a letter of 300 words or less telling of her personal characteristics to Gus P. Backman, secretary of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. The contest closes April 5. Tourists Found Arriving Early "Jumping the gun" seems to be the motto of Utah's tourist Visitors Visit-ors this year, reports W. D. Rish-el, Rish-el, president of, the Utah State Automobile association. Rishel predicts that Utah will enjoy the greatest tourist volume this year of any summer in her history. "Tourists visiting Utah last year reached tt new record high, and every indication is that the 1936 total will be raised 25 to SO per cent in 1937," hfe Stated. Although tourists do not appear very frequently before the middle of April the new sightseers are already coming into the state, the association president finds. Needed for adequate parking space for the new car-trailer touring tour-ing equipages is pointed out to cities by the head.
