The Utes were determined to take out their frustrations on the Union Cougars, and did, with a 28-24 win. Throughout the game both teams had to deal with some rainy weather. , The first score of the game was a Uintah first-quarter touchdown, a three-yard run by Uintah senior running back Colter Christensen. Later in the quarter, however, Union answered back with a three-yard touchdown run but missed the extra point attempt. This put the score at 7-6 in favor of the Utes. Uintah scored the next touchdown touch-down on another three-yard touchdown scamper by Colter Christensen, upping the. score tol4-6. The next score of the game was perhaps the highlight of the game for Uintah: a passing play deep down the Uintah sideline from the arm of Austin McCauley that ended up in the hands of receiver Travis Smuin and resulting in a 60-yard touchdown pass to put Highest Quality Til; :ifMllii!ir:i';7K' the Utes 21-6 at the half. Head Coach Doug Harding says that in the first half of the game Uintah was able to capitalize capital-ize on Union turnovers and turn them into points. In the third quarter, however, the momentum started to shift in Union's favor. The Utes kicked off, and as soon as the ball was caught at the other end of the field they were in trouble. The Union player returned it 95 yards for the touchdown and a score of 21-13. Union scored again, on a 43-yard 43-yard touchdown pass, and then converted on the two- point conversion to knot up the score at 21. In the fourth quarter, Union was once again deep into Uintah territory and looking to score. Union didn't get a touchdown this time however, as the Utes defense buckled down to make the stop. The Cougars were forced into a field-goal attempt, . which they converted on to go up 24-21. But, when it came down to it the Utes were able to take the ball down the field on a drive and convert on the opportunity with a touchdown. Once again it was a three-yard touchdown run by Colter Christensen, his third ' touchdown of the game. After the Tyler Larsen extra point, the Utes were ahead by a score of 28-24, the final score, as the Utes improved their record to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 10 play. Harding says he was proud of the team for getting a big stop to force Union into a field goal and then being able to go down the field and answer with what ended up being the game winning touchdown. He added that he felt overall the offense didn't play as well as they should have. "Our kids played tough the whole game," he says- "They never quit, never gave up." As it stands now, each team in Region 10 has one loss in the region, except for Wasatch who beat Uintah the week prior. "They will get a loss in region," re-gion," says Uintah coach Doug Harding. "They're not as strong as they have been." Uintah has two big games in the next two weeks, one this week at Park City and the other when they host Judge. To beat Park City coach Harding Hard-ing feels the Utes just need to be disciplined on defense, so that they don't give up any big momentum mo-mentum changing plays, adding that he wants to keep his offense on the field and keep Park City's offense off the field. With the reigon up for grabs for any of the five teams to take it at this point, the next two weeks will be crucial for the Uintah Utes. |
