Show A4 Wednesday, October 8, 2008 Obituaries Lawrence Junior York Lawrence Junior York passed away Sept.17, 2008, in Ledbetter, Texas, of a heart attack at the age of 64. He was born June 1, 1944, in Richmond, Ind., to Lawrence York and Mavis Louise Kidd York Powell. Lawrence (Larry) attended grade schools in Vernal and in Liberty, Ind. When he was growing grow-ing up he played Little League baseball on three different teams in Liberty. He always liked sports. In high school he was on the track team and ran cross country. He won several trophies for winning cross country races. He also worked for farmers in hay fields and at the Woodruff grocery store in Indiana. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attended Con-nersville Con-nersville Branch in Indiana and he was the first boy to graduate from Primary in the branch. The family returned to Vernal for his senior year, and he graduated gradu-ated frpm Uintah High School. In Vernal. He worked for Safeway Grocery Store. Larry worked for United Airlines at airports in Los Angeles, An-geles, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco, Calif. He lived in San Mateo, Calif., and then moved to Vacaville, Calif. He married mar-ried Wendy Lee Farrell in July 21,1999, who has one daughter. He retired from United Airlines after working for 35 years. Then they moved to Ledbetter, Texas, in 2000, and bought a home and small farm. He enjoyed working work-ing for several farmers in the area until his health began to decline. He is survived by his wife, Wendy, Ledbetter; son Brian York; daughter, Vicki York; grandson, Ryan York, Santa Maria, Ma-ria, Calif.; stepdaughter; Melissa Blencove and her two children of Vacaville; mother, Mavis Powell, Vernal; sister, Carol (Charles) Robbins, Nibley, Utah; brothers, Sherman (Lana) York, Las Vegas, Nev., and Phillip (Mi Chu) York, Hayward, Calif. He was born April 15, 1924, in Ballard, Utah, to George Oscar Dean and Mary Ellen Langston. Howard married Elva Jean Petersen Pe-tersen on Oct. 13, 1947. Howard grew up in the Uintah Uin-tah Basin with his twin brother, Hugh. He moved to and lived in Salt Lake City for many years. After he retired, he and his wife moved back to Vernal. Howard How-ard loved hunting in the Book Cliffs, fishing and his family. He is survived by one son, Hugh L. Sarah Foster Sarah Elva Allen Foster, on Oct. 7, 2008 was joyously embraced em-braced by her loving husband, Tom, her parents, 10 siblings and many more family and friends when her heavenly father called her home. She was born Oct. 21,' 1923, in Baggs, Wyo., the eighth of 12 children to Sarah Elizabeth Kendall Ken-dall and George Henry Allen. She married Tommy William Foster on July 26, 1948, in Laramie, Wyo. They eventually made their home in Vernal where they raised their four children. She loved and was actively engaged in life. She valued her family above all else, always being be-ing there for them. She was an organizer and knew how to get things done. Sarah enjoyed and was very good at crocheting, knitting, knit-ting, quilting, sewing, cooking, making home a great place to be, bowling, dancing, people and having a good time with them. She is survived by her children, chil-dren, Eva (Bob) McCoy of Nephi, Linda Reef of Vernal, Tom (Brenda) Foster of Vernal, Melvin (Wanda) Foster of Reno, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; 25 greatgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; and her youngest sister Melva (Rod) Winsper of Vancouver, Wash. CUlNTAl ' Basin f Medical V J Center Margaret Murdock Our beloved mother, grandmother, grand-mother, sister, aunt and friend Margaret Rose Jenks Murdock "Poocheev (Star)," 69, of Indian Bench, Utah, passed away peacefully peace-fully Oct. 2, 2008, from complications compli-cations related to Alzheimer s disease. Margaret faced her illness with the dignity and grace that was typical of her. She was strong and stubborn and fought the disease dis-ease for more than 15 years. She is now with the love of her life, her husband, Gary Murdock, and they are in the arms of the Lord, whole and happy and free! Margaret Rose was born May 30, 1939, to Lawrence and Sarah Santio Jenks at the Uintah and Ouray Hospital, in Fort Duchesne. Duch-esne. She was tenth of eleven children, born to her parents. Margaret married Gary "Black-bear" "Black-bear" Murdock, April 19, 1964, in Elko, Nevada. Gary passed away Aug. 23, 2008. Margaret grew up in Ouray, Utah, and in Moon Water, the Hillcreek area, with her parents, sisters and brothers in a one-room one-room cabin. Her father was a BIA Ranger and a cattleman. The Ute Language was her first language, which she spoke fluently. flu-ently. She grew up in the old ways, hunting, moving around with their cattle and sheep when the seasons changed, and hauling water and working hard. Her family later moved to Independence, and then to Indian In-dian Bench. She attended the Whiterocks Boarding School, and Avalon School, and then graduated gradu-ated from Union High School, in 1958. Margaret attended Weber Jr. College, Ogden, Utah, and Salt Lake City Trade Tech, receiving receiv-ing her secretarial certificate in 1960. Margaret worked as a secretary sec-retary for the Ute Tribe Law Enforcement from 1960 to 1964. She then married her husband, Gary, and they moved to Salt Lake City to raise their family. After 10 years in Salt Lake City, Margaret moved back to the Uintah Basin with her husband and children. Margaret worked for 18 years for the federal government before retiring due to her illness. She started with the Indian Health Services as a Medical Clerk, where she worked from 1973 to 1978. Margaret then went to work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and worked in Land Operations, Social Services and for the' Criminal Investigator Investiga-tor Departments from 1978 to 1988. Margaret often commented com-mented that she loved working for Social Services because she helped people and was often called on to interpret the Ute language for the Ute people. Margaret transferred back to the Indian Health Services in 1988 where she worked until she retired in 1992. Margaret was a very kind and gentle woman who loved Melva Neumeyer Melva Jorgensen Neumeyer, 79, of Leota, Uintah County, passed away Oct. 2, 2008, at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal. Melva was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Leota to Oliver Wendell and Ina Elizabeth Ellsworth Jorgensen. Jor-gensen. She grew up in the Ouray Valley and went to school in Leota Elementary. She graduated from Alterra High School and went on to get her teaching degree Melva married Fredrick Earl Neumeyer on June 13, 1963. Earl diedFeb. 13, 1986,inTooele,Utah. Melva was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She loved teaching children and was a school teacher for about 30 years, with 28 of those years in the Tooele School District. In Tooele, she was presented a plaque "For Excellence in Education Edu-cation and Dedicated Service to Tooele County School District Students in the Field of Music." She enjoyed embroidering, genealogy and reading. Due to her love of music, she taught private piano for several years; she played the organ and loved to sing and was very active in church and community musical activities. She was a very busy woman, constantly con-stantly moving to keep her home and yard immaculate. She was very organized. She loved the mountains and hunting with her husband and enjoyed the hunting gatherings with her brother s and sisters-in-law. Margaret was a very spiritual woman. She was raised with the traditional Ute beliefs, which she always taught her children first. She was a Catholic, who loved the Lord and Jesus. Margaret got the trip of her lifetime as she called it, when she traveled with her daughter to Rome, Italy, to Saint Peter's Basilica and had an audience with Pope John Paul IV. Margaret is survived by one sister, Alberta Jenks, Las Vegas, Nev.; children, Darren Cuch, Indian Bench, DeVonne Murdock, Fort Duchesne, Gar-rick Gar-rick Murdock, Indian Bench, Brandon (Kimberly) Murdock, Bluebell; stepson, Kim (Teann) Murdock, Roosevelt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn (Gilbert) Mojado, Pala, Calif., Benny (Lola) Murdock, King George, Va., Shirley M. Reed, Fort Duchesne, Ronald S. Murdock, Mur-dock, Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Wendell and Ina Elizabeth Jorgensen; husband, hus-band, Fredrick Earl Neumeyer; daughter, Ina Jean Neumeyer; baby brother, Bert Jorgensen; and brother, Ervin W Jorgensen.
