Show &pIft Vernal Express Wednesday, July 2, 2008 C1 Competitive shooter visits Uintah County Nationally-ranked competitive competi-tive pistol shooter Michael Leh-ner Leh-ner has volunteered to host an afternoon combat pistol seminar at the Buckskin Hills Shooting Complex five miles east of Vernal on Aug. 9. The seminar will be held in conjunction with the Northeastern North-eastern Utah Pistol Club's night shoot. It will start at 3 p.m. A barbecue dinner will be available at the range for those who are staying for the night shoot. Lehner has been shooting competitively since 1975 and has been teaching and doing law enforcement instruction since 1980. He is currently a member of Team Safariland which includes in-cludes several multiple world and national title holders, including Rob Leatham, Doug Koenig and Mike Voit. There are a few slots available for serious local shooters who might wish to attend. You will fire 200 to 300 rounds at steel targets from Action Targets of Provo. Anyone considering attending must come to NUPC's regular combat pistol shoot at 9 a.m. on July 12 for familiarization of range rules and procedures. M I, U10 boys soccer team places 2nd in Odgen A participant in the 2008 Dinoland Triathlon shows how you really ride a bike in the second leg of the event. Dinoland Triathlon back for second year The VC United boys soccer soc-cer team, known as the Young Guns, attended the High Valley Shootout in Ogden Valley, June 26-28. The team played well, beating Fremont 9-2 and Cottonwood Rush 7-3. Then they also beat the Sandy Eagles 9-3. The Young Guns entered the finals in second place. They defeated the 3rd place team, Mount Ogden Fire, 7-3. They met the Sandy Eagles again in the final game where the Young Guns were handed their first loss with a score of 4-2. "We have such a great group of boys on this team. They listen, work hard, have fun, and play as a team," said coach Valton Mortenson. The Young Guns also attended the Utah Summer Games where they had a record of three wins, one tie and one loss. This team includes players Sterling Morgan, Alex Migliori, Giovanni Manwaring, Carter Seitz, TrevenMcKeachnie, Quil-lon Quil-lon Mortenson, London Wells, Andrew Taylor, Jarod Canet and Thomas Beasley. Another year and another Dinoland Triathlon has taken place on June 28. The event brought people from all over to compete. There were short and intermediate in-termediate distances. Some competed individually, while others competed as part of a relay team. The winner of the short distance dis-tance male division was Linley Wendt from Golden, Colo. He finished the race with a time of 1:10:07.1. The second finisher was Jerry Medford of Arvada, Colo. And coming in third was Jeff Dolloff-Holt of West Valley ' v. v-i ... .. V l H" 1 " i City. The first male finisher from Vernal was Aaron Olsen. He finished at 1:13:09.1. The first overall female finisher fin-isher was Debbie Perry, who finished at 1:14:01. She was followed by Keena Scharrer of Pleasant Grove and Caprice Schwarzwalder of South Ogden. Og-den. The first female finisher from Vernal was Annie Einerson whose finish time was 1:32:22.3. Linette Henline of Vernal finished fin-ished in 1:34:15.7. In the short relay the winners win-ners were Team Meir, consisting of Cheryl Meir, Steve Meir and Casey Reeves. They finished in 1:22:07.6. They were followed by Team Gessell, consisting of Scott Gessell, Les Harris and Jared Spencer. Their finishing time was 1:25:22.4. Third place went to team Bastian, consisting consist-ing of James Bastian, Natalie Chamberlain and John Cham berlain. They finished the race in 1:25:25.4. In the intermediate length the winner of the elite class was Marcel Vifian with a time of 1:58:41.8. Second place was Brandon Rakita of Manitou Springs, Colo. The first finisher from Vernal in this length was Richard Bot-tomley Bot-tomley with a time of 3:05:03.2. Other finishers from Vernal include Mackay Duffin, Wendy Morton, Chris Felkins, Wendy Harris, Andy Mckea, Joe Mckea, Justin Allred and Teresa Mair. In the intermediate relay the winners were Team Smith, which consisted of Cody Smith, Ty Jensen and Richard Henderson. They finished with the time of 2:33:15.3. Second place was the team of Patrick Christiansen, Christopher Dellinger and Nanette Na-nette Lupcho who finished with a time of 2:49:20.7. For full results visit www. dinotri.com. The Family Fishing Event, sponsored spon-sored by three radio stations, FM 98.5, KNEU and B92.5; RedFleetSteinaker State Parks and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) started June 1. "We're getting a little worried because no one has brought a fish or the tag in," said Teena Christopherson, event organizer. "We've got some nice prizes to give away and we'd hoped to see several tags brought in by now." "Everyone is invited to participate par-ticipate in the event, which consists of catching a fish marked with a small red tag and then turning the tag in for prizes," said Christopherson.
