New grant opportunity for state's folk artists The Utah Arts Council last week announced the addition of a new, year-round funding opportunity op-portunity for folk, traditional, and ethnic artists: The Utah Arts Council Fast Track Project Grants. According to the program requirements, project grants are designed to assist individual artists and cultural communities in the documentation, development, develop-ment, or presentation of their own traditional art forms, as well as encourage local investment in traditional folk and ethnic arts. "Project grants were born out of a recurring necessity in the folk and traditional arts community for immediate funds to assist with project start-up costs," said Utah Arts Council Executive Director Margaret Hunt. "It's our hope and intention inten-tion that these more readily accessible ac-cessible grants will allow those projects to actually take place in the communities that need them the most." Project grants offer matching funds up to $500 to individuals or groups for projects that develop or present community-based, traditional folk art or ethnic art forms. They are awarded year-round as funds remain available. The grants may be used for supplies, materials, tools, fees or other resources that directly enable traditional folk artists and ethnic artists to participate in, improve or share their art form. Applications are being accepted ac-cepted on a rolling basis from artists, community organizers, organizing bodies, or individuals representing ah artist or arts organization. Complete applications applica-tions are required to be lead by an artist or art organization displaying dis-playing excellence in their field, community support - including cash and in-kind match - and a workable project plan. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Utah Arts Council Folk Arts staff prior to the submission sub-mission of an application for a consultation. All applicants are eligible for advice and technical support from the Folk Arts program pro-gram staffthroughout the project planning and implementation process. Grant recipients are invited to share their projects with the public at annual showcase events produced by the Utah Arts Council Coun-cil after the completion of their projects in their community.
