Show Vernal Express Wednesday, September 12, 2007 Anderton returns from Portugal Landon Anderton has returned re-turned after serving a 24-month mission in the Lisbon Portugal Mission in Barreiro, Cascias, Setubal and the Azores for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints. Anderton is the son of Danna Duncan and Taggart Anderton and the grandson of Garth and Sonja Anderton. He spoke on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Glines 2nd LDS Ward, 1510 W. Highway 40, at 11 a.m. Hatch receives national recognition Sheridan Hatch, office manager manag-er of the Vernal Schaefermeyer-Leavitt Schaefermeyer-Leavitt Insurance Agency, has received the Appreciation Corner Award. Hatch's recognition comes as a national award in competitftms with over 100 nominations that were sent in nation-wide. He will speaking on Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Vernal 9th LDS Ward, 250 N. 200 W, at Nominees sought for conservation award The Utah Farm Bureau Federation Fed-eration has announced a new Eartnership with Wisconsin-ased Wisconsin-ased Sand County Foundation and is calling for nominations for the co-sponsored Leopold Conservation Award. The award will be presented in November to recognize and celebrate cele-brate Utah's Landholder Leaders - those exceptional landowners whose voluntary initiatives for conservation exemplify the spirit and history of Utah ranching and farming. The Leopold Conservation Award, is comprised of $10,000 and an Aldo Leopold crystal, recognizes Utah farmers and ranchers who demonstrate outstanding stewardship and sustainable management of natural resources. The award is presented in honor of famed conservationist and author Aldo Leopold who called for an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage. "We are very excited to announce an-nounce this award and this partnership on behalf of the farmers and ranchers of Utah," said Leland Hogan, president of the Utah Farm Bureau Federation. Federa-tion. "This award, however, is great for all of Utah because the recognition and funding helps to preserve and enhance our open space. The award is expected to be supported, directly and indirectly, indi-rectly, by a significant coalition of individual agencies and organizations, orga-nizations, including the Utah Farm Bureau, Utah Cattlemen's Association and the Nature Conservancy, Con-servancy, together with the Utah Partners for Conservation and Development who help to pool and coordinate federal, state, and local resources for rehabilitation and restoration efforts in the wake of the 2007 wildfires. According to Allen, a panel of independent judges will be looking for conservation management, manage-ment, economics, and community leadersMpaBprimarycriteriafor the award. The Leopold Conservation Conser-vation Award will be presented at the annual meeting of the Utah Association of Conservation Districts Dis-tricts on Nov. 8, at St. George's Hilton Garden Inn.
