Simplot Phosphate honored for reclamation TheUtahBoardofOil,Gasand Mining presented a 2007 Earth Day award to Simplot Phosphate, LLC, during ceremonies held April 25 at the Utah Department of Natural Resources. Earth Day awards recognize companies, organizations or individuals who go beyond what is required by regulation to protect and restore re-store Utah's environment while developing natural resources. Although not required by law to do so, the Uintah County mining operator voluntarily reclaimed re-claimed approximately 585 acres of pre-lawminingdisturbed land. At considerable expense, Simplot has returned the land to productive produc-tive post-mining uses, an action not required by the law or by its mining permit. In remarks made during the presentation, Board Chairman Douglas Johnson said, "This award is in recognition of Simplot Sim-plot Phosphate's exceptionally high standards and regard for our environment that exceeds statutory requirements." Eighty-four companies, organizations or-ganizations or individuals have been recognized for their environmental envi-ronmental efforts since the Earth Day award program was begun in 1992. "Contrary to popular belief, most oil and gas, and mining operators, have a sincere desire to develop in an environmentally responsible manner the natural resources so essential to our quality of life," added Johnson. "Our Earth Day award program honors many of those who do. Simplot is consistently willing to go the extra mile when it comes to environmental stewardship and the board is pleased to be able to recognize their efforts." Today's Earth Day award is the second presented to Simplot Phosphate, LLC, for their environmentally en-vironmentally conscious work They were presented with an Earth Day award in 2006 for efforts ef-forts to educate the community about mining and the essential part it plays in our quality of fife. lift SATuiuUy, MAy 5ih From 10:00 - 5:00 Jo.n us at 11 47 W Hwy 40 (bMsd ARby's) Come enter our duAwiNq For Free servIces iNcludiNq riAiit cuts, perms, coIors, EyEDRow WAxiNq ANd Much more!
