Duchesne County resident Terry Rohrer is looking for volunteers volun-teers to help her pick up the garbage next month. Volunteers sought for US 40 trash cleanup disputes that claim. "I welcome all the people in the oil industry, I think it's just everyone being careless," Rohrer said. "Its not like we're not going to be somewhere in 30 minutes to throw it away." Rohrer hopes that the project proj-ect will help people gain a new pride in the area where they live and that it will catch on in local neighborhoods. Anyone interested in helping help-ing out can contact Rohrer at 722-4215. Basin News Service From Roosevelt to Vernal, Highway 40 is becoming a real eyesore. There is everything from five gallon buckets to food packages to boxes on the side of the highway. That's about to change. On April 14, Terry Rohrer is determined to clean up the highway. "I really started looking and noticed these road are pathetic," pathet-ic," Rohrer said. "While driving my grandchild to Vernal one day, we decided to play a game and count how many buckets we could count. We ended up counting 15." It is amazing how much trash is on the roadside. A quick walk along the highway reveals red bottles, blue cans, garbage bags filled with trash, old tires, buckets, buck-ets, and glass shards all around. Rohrer wants to put togethe teams of 10 people for every two-mile stretch of highway - about 150 people or less than one percent of the Basin's population. popu-lation. She is hoping to get local organizations like the Boy and Girl scouts, church and school groups involved. She would also like to include individuals, families, fam-ilies, and even inmates from the county jail in the cleanup effort. "I would like to try to go in and clean it up all at one time instead of a few bags here and there," she said. Rohrer is also advocating more involvement in the state's Adopt-a-Highway program. There are already 10 organizations organi-zations in the region that are enrolled in the program. Rohrer said if 20 more organizations or businesses sign up to Adopt-a Highway then the entire highway high-way will remain clean from Roosevelt to Vernal. According to Utah Department of Transportation officials, the only restrictions for the highway cleanups is that no one under 11 years old can participate, and there cannot be any 4-wheelers on the highway. Rohrer said the last restriction restric-tion disappointed one young women who wanted to help by delivering water to the workers work-ers on her 4-wheeler. She's pregnant and won't be able to do anything to laborious, but still wanted to contribute to the project. UDOT is supplying vests and trash bags for everyone jinvolve'd in next month's clean-; up. :: ' : Although some people have suggested that all the trash is due to the oil industry, Rohrer Marriage Licenses Martin Victor-Miranda and Irene Plazola-Rosales, both of Altamont, issued March 20, 2007.
