Scout Recognition Hundreds of scouters in the Uintah District gathered together last Thursday evening to recognize the efforts of their own in the annual scout recognition recog-nition banquet held during the March Roundtable. The efforts of Max Young, who has been in charge of "the Best Camp in the Council" or High Uintah Camp from 1987 to 2006, were recognized. Young retired after 20 years of serving as camp director. He will turn the reins of the council camp over to his son, Slade Young starting this summer. After a potato bar meal put on by the district, the group heard from featured speaker Scott Cameron, general board member of the LDS Church's Young Men's Presidency. 1 r 1 v f Helping Hearts service club formed Under the direction of Alyssa Gerber, Uintah County president of 4-H Teen Council, a new 4-H service club has been formed called "Helping Hearts." The young ladies in this club have been instrumental in producing produc-ing over 100 hygiene kits and tying 45 of 65 blankets donated by Current Topics. They have accomplished this in the last three months for the new Turning Point Shelter in Vernal. This club is also in the process of making 25 children's kits. Fast figuring accounted for 200 boys per week, two weeks per year over the past 20 years would total some 8,000 scouts and their leaders. Cameron congratulated the camp director for efforts to help young men in their search to figure out who they are and what role they will play as they get older. "I am here to honor those in scouting," said Cameron. "I reverence you for the time you give. Young men need you more now than ever before." The contribution was from the proceeds of the REMAX Charity Ball in February. Charity ball benefits presented to Crisis Center At the Tuesday Chamber of Commerce meeting, Gerri Buckalew of REMAX Premier presented a check in the amount of $2,700 to the Women's Crisis Center. Lilyan Baker, Program Director, expressed appreciation for the contribution, contribu-tion, "This is a wonderful help for the Crisis Center and we are so grateful. We always need partnerships of time and material mate-rial gifts, and the community has been so generous." The check was from the Charity Ball which REMAX hosted in February.
