Morgan and Heaton ran with Eric Funk and Jared Ruppe in the 4 X 100 meter relay for a personal best of 44.27 seconds and qualified their team for state. On an average, cars get 22-25 miles to the gallon, while two wheel vehicles like motorcycles and scooters get about 50-60 miles to the gallon. A gas efficient four door car will also cost about $30 to fill with regular unleaded unlead-ed gas, whereas a motorcycle costs about $10 on premium unleaded. Sounds like a great deal right? Although gas prices are the biggest benefit, there are many reasons why people ride. Chase Beers of Beers Harley Davidson, a local motorcycle shop, says that another great reason to ride is just for enjoyment enjoy-ment "There's a sense of freedom free-dom that comes with riding your bike. The wind in your face, and the feeling of almost flying. It's amazing," said Beers. . Rick York, owner of York Motorsports, also says that motorcycles are fun to ride. . "People cruise around town on these things all the time. Not just because of their gas efficiency, effi-ciency, but because they're fun to ride." Both agree that there is a sense of control when driving driv-ing a small motor vehicle that doesn't come with the enclosure enclo-sure of a car. Another great reason to ride the prices. A new car runs at least $10,000, but for a new scooter or motorcycle, the price varies from $2,000 to $6,000 for a quality vehicle. Of course there are more expensive bikes, just 1,1 I If1 &e$&rpmt8m If I ! I "-Im iw . i Motorcycles are appearing everywhere in Vernal. as cars, but the overall price is much more practical. "Small motor vehicles can also be safer than cars." says Beers. "If the driver knows what they're doing and is wearing the right safety gear, than they are much safer than someone in a car." York says that he has noticed a big increase in the number of riders throughout the Vernal area. "About five years ago, we couldn't have given away a street bike," he says. "Now we see people riding them all over town and sales have increased. We've also seen a lot of the scooters going around town as women become more and more involved in the sport The girls who don't like motorcycles like scooters because they're a bit more petite, but they come with all the benefits of a motorcycle. motor-cycle. The only real difference is speed and stamina" Although motorcycles and scooters have many advantages, advan-tages, there are also a few disadvantages dis-advantages that every rider should be aware of. The first is weather. A motorcycle or scooter scoot-er doesn't offer the elemental protection that a closed car does. They are also harder to control in bad weather because they are so much lighter and have less traction. It is not recommended rec-ommended to drive a small motor vehicle in the winter months, or in extreme rain. Another disadvantage is size. A motorcycle is far more compact com-pact than a car, which makes them more maneuverable, but harder to see. A rider who is doing everything possible to be seen can still be missed in heavy traffic, and any reckless driving could result in an injury. inju-ry. Small motor vehicles have many advantages and disadvantages, disad-vantages, but they are growing grow-ing in number throughout the Vernal area. Drivers and cyclists everywhere need to be aware of each other to help avoid accidents or injuries on the roads. Chase Beers says "If you're going to ride, you have to be smart about it Know what you're doing and be safe. Drivers don't always watch for you, so make sure that you watch for them."
