SCOPING FOR PROPOSED RENEWAL RENEW-AL OF RECREATION RESIDENCE Dear Friends of the Ashley. You are invited to provide comments on a realty action addressing address-ing continued recreation residence use on the Ashley National Forest This action is necessary .Vernal because existing recreation rec-reation residence permits per-mits within the Ashley National Forest are due to expire on December 31, 2008. Recreation residences are a valid use of National Forest System land, and an important component of the overall National Forest recreation program. pro-gram. It is Forest Service policy to continue recreation recre-ation residence use and to work in partnership with holders of these permits to maximize the recreational recre-ational benefits of these residences. However, it has been years since recreation residence use was analyzed in the Ashley National Forest's Land and Resource Management Plan, so additional environmental review and documentation documenta-tion is necessary. Issuance of recreation residence term special use permits allow for use, occupancy, and maintenance mainte-nance of recreation cabins and associated outbuildings outbuild-ings (e.g., woodshed, outhouse, etc.). These structures, some of which have been located on the Ashley National Forest for several decades, are maintained for the use and enjoyment of the permit holders and their guests. We propose to continue con-tinue recreation residence resi-dence use on National Forest Service land in conformance with Forest Service policy. To implement imple-ment the proposed action, we may: 1) issue new 20 - year recreation residence resi-dence term special use permits with no changes to these permits; 2) issue new recreation residence term special use permits with modifications to the original permits; 3) issue a decision to discontinue recreation residence use and require removal of all personal property, or; 4) take no action (i.e. ' permits -expire and property prop-erty is removed). Other " alteriiafives may be considered con-sidered if such are raised during the public scoping and comment period. There are 58 lots occupied occu-pied with recreation residence resi-dence structures andor improvements within five tracts on the Forest that total approximately 180 acres. The tracts on each ranger District are as follows: fol-lows: District - Summer Home Tract - Number of Cabins. Flaming Gorge - Half Moon Park -10. Vernal - Oaks Park -.12. Vernal - Deer Lodge -28. RooseveltDuchesne -Uinta River - 7. RooseveltDuchesne -Uinta Canyon -1. Total - 58. Published in the Vernal Express on July 13 and 20, 2005.
