'Louisiana Man' has audience clapping hands, stomping feet By Virginia Harringtonn Feature Writer Fast fiddlin' Doug Kershaw, known affectionately to his many fans as the "Louisiana Man," appeared in the Western Park amphitheater the evening of August 9 in connection with the County Fair. Local radio personality Earl Hawkins opened the show by introducing intro-ducing this year's Uintah County royalty. Lacy Long, Miss Uintah County, invited the audience to call her if they have questions about her platform to help special needs children chil-dren or if they have needs with which she could help them. Britany Smith, first runnerup, and Sheena McKeachnie, second runnerup, also greeted the audience. Charlie Jenkins, of Ballard, warmed up the audience with several sever-al songs he has written himself. The audience responded enthusiastically to his performance and wished him well in his efforts to succeed in Nashville. Doug Kershaw and his backup band were next, starting their presentation pre-sentation with favorite oldies that got the audience clapping hands, tapping toes and demanding more. Kershaw is an energetic performer who used interaction with the audience audi-ence to keep the pace of his act going between songs. He even took a photograph of a fan who had been photographing him. Students stated stat-ed that the planter was a real eye sore and needed to be changed. Nursery Landscape class members redesigned the planter and installed the new landscape. There is now a grassy area, white lilacs and a mounded mound-ed hill with a "IT shaped hedge. They also install a new sprinkler system in the planter.
